Drop in dimensions

Well this summer I'm gonna build a drop in so i can work on my rails, but I'm also gonna make it semi portable for urbans.  How long of a drop in ramp do you need to get decent speed?  I'm planning on building a 5 foot tall drop in with a 2 foot wide deck and ramp.  I'm planning on making the ramp about 8 feet long, is this enough speed for a rail about 1 foot high? 

I'm also wondering about the deck too.  I'm planning on making it 2'x2' but may go for 2x1 for cheapness and portability.  Any thoughts or recconmendations?

an 8 foot ramp with 5 foot deck is exactly what i have and it will be more than enough speed for a 1 foot tall rail. Im not too sure how a 2x1 foot deck will be though...it seems a little small. When ur on top of the drop in, its a big fall, and 1 slip could cost you a broken leg...that being said, my deck is 2.5x2.5 feet....its portable via an f150 supercab, and even the deck that size is pretty sketchy while in ski boots

that has really helped me too. but what material do you use for sliding? and how long is your rail?

what i used is that gutter guard stuff...its like small black plastic mesh that comes in 5 inch wide rolls...i stapled that stuff to the drop in/ladder part...this is the only pis of mine that i have, but it works to explain what i mean
