i haved  a hp computer about 2-3 years old i think
i have a canon hv20 but computer wont regoxnzie it
any  ideas?

i dont think its editing program, the computer doesnt even know the camera is plugged in

Do two things, make sure your using a firewire, not usb, and then download a program called HDV split, just google it. Then capture through that instead.

okay i bought a firewire cable and now the computer knows camera is there
next question is how do i get videe on to computer, a better editing program?
windows  movie maker doesnt support 13394 or whatever the fuck the firewire port is called

ok i succsefully have a clip taken from camera in a folder but i cant play it
i tried opening it with windows media player that doesnt work either neither does quicktime

download bittorrent then download sony vegas pro 8.0 then use that to edit

yes i did and i guess i accidentally made the file type "cool" im not sure if thats the problem
like instead of being wmv or quicktime or mpeq the file type is just "cool "

Bump.  We are editing on wmm with an HV20 and all the footage is super laggy and jumpy.

What should we do?

^get a better computer, this shit takes a lot of memory, get some more ram.



for the filetype, change it to .MPG

HV20 is an awesome camera, but its useless if your computer cant handle it.

First of all. nobody should ever have to use windows movie maker. its a terrible program, and it shouldn't exist.
Second, you need a decent video card, plenty of ram (I have 2 gigs of ram and even that is slow at times), and lots of hard drive space.

if you're using a desktop, its very easy and fairly inexpensive to upgrade the RAM. so i would recommend that.
I know on limewire you can download vegas or premiere pretty easily, so definitely do that.

when i got my first video camera i went through hell figuring things out, but once you get things going its a lot of fun. keep trying.
