Subaru Outback?

Outbacks are legit for sure. Nice cars, lots of room and stuff, and the best awd on the market.

I'm also thinking about one anyone know what their gas mileage is. I have an explorer and this $4.00 a gallon is killing me.

I have a 98 outback limited. Very nice. I've got a thule for my skis and can easily fit 3 other people and their stuff in the back end along with 2 12" subs. It's at 130k and is still running great except for a small oil leak. They're great in snow but don't get over confident. My mom had the car before me and hit 3 deer, a lightpole and a car and it did barely any damage and I go off the road at 15 and rip the corner or the bumper off. I bottomed out and was stuck for about 10 minutes until someone was nice enough to sit on my bumper and I could drive out. It's a beast needless to say.

My good friend just got a 08 Subaru Outback sport from his parents (birthday Present)...yeah lucky i know. but its sweet as hell 170hp i believe, its real quick. good car in the snow, we go up to the mt. all the time and hes a beast, its actually pretty reasonable in price i think... if 20k is reasonable in your mind...

Hell yes, my bro's outback stands up to an extreme beating due to his "aggressive" driving style.  He took it on a road trip once and started getting shit from the engine, his timing belt was going but he decided to press on.  He drove from eastern PA to West Virginia and back without major problems.  When he got home and fixed it (he's a mechanic) he said one of the pulleys in there had sheered off yet somehow still held the belt, the pulley was so out of place it ground a hole through the timing belt cover.  Still made it home.  He regularly drives it through fields and shit for fun.  He's a SPEED channel type guy.

jea, i rock the same model in white, real legit car
Havent had any major engine problems and always gets e to the mountain, although vtpublicenemy3 and i were on our way to Bolton one time and i  went of interstate 89 backwards doing like 75 mph and we where fine. So it must be safe too.

I just bought a 2002 Impreza WRX in February. Shortly after I bought it, we had a huge blizzard (by michigan's standards at least) over 2" an hour. I took it out when there were about 4" on the roads, the car drove amazingly. Their AWD system is soo good. I had some Blizzak snow tires on it too, some cars had to stop on the side of the road they were slippin so much and I just cruised right by. I think my ABS kicked in like twice. Awesome cars in the winter.

Subarus are like titties on ice. I've never had a problem with my Outback. AWD, good gas mileage, lots of cargo room, easy to parallel park, all the ski bums have them. I know several people who've had their Outback since '92, '93, and later, and have never had a problem. The new STi is a hatchback with lots more balls, but pretty expensive and hard to get insurance for. Get a Subaru and join the club.

Subaru's are sick. I've got a 98 Forester and love it, it has almost 130k on it now and is still running great, and with snow tires it is seriously unstopable.

yeah i have a 00 outback. perfect for my lifestyle. Mountain-mobile during the winter (unstoppable) , and the perfect bar/road trip car during the summer. Is a little heave and somewhat gutless power., but driving up hairy mountain roads/ off trail logging roads to hike,  you will be thankful you have all wheel drive  AND a low center of gravity with a fairly wide stance.  Ground clearance has been compared to similar year ford explorers , its not high up, but the guts are nicely tucked.

I bought mine last year with 105k, i've put around 24k since. No problems as of yet, I'm pretty anal about oil changes, tranny flush, brake flush , etc.  The only complaint I have is, the Maine roads with heavy carloads have taken a beating on my suspension. I get a kind of 'ocean effect' when braking ,  sloppy around corners etc.

i recently got my lady an '05 outback XT.  it's super sick.  it's fast.  downside is that since it has the turbo the gas mileage suffers.  averages like 18mpg.  super sick though.   drives great, does well on utah snow, heated seats, heated mirrors, heated windshield wipers.  such a sick winter utah car.  the sunroof is HUGE.  it's seriously like three and a half feet long.  way stoked on it so far.  another downside is that the stereo has no auxilary jack so i can't hook my ipod up to it.

Just drove home 70 miles in a huge blizzard. Saw 13 cars in the ditch in a 30 mile stretch of the expressway. My ABS didn't even kick in one time, never slid at all. With good snow tires (I have Blizzak's on mine) and that AWD, it is absolutely amazing how good my new suby is in the snow. Never would have made the drive in my old honda.

I've been driving one for a couple years now and love it.  With a good set of snow tires you can actually drive roads once they're down to only snowmobile traffic, given you're sure you won't go off.  Mine has the H6 in it which is definitely a lot quicker than the four, but mileage suffers (~20 town, ~25 highway).  It also takes 91-93 octane, but for me it's worth the extra because I hate having to get a running start at passing people.  It's definitely a nice car, but I think the next one I buy will be a TS or WRX wagon.

If you still aren't convinced, look up Edmunds.com (my personal favorite) and other consumer reviews/ratings online.

subaru's are good for traveling/gas milage,etc  but they are known to break down a lot. . . my mom used to have one and my friend used to have one and they both broke down a lot. Like our radiator broke twice and one or two other things happend but it was a good car overall

screw the outback. get a Legacy gt-B, gt30B, or 250tB. Seriously, in comparison to those cars, the outback handles like a bus. Dad and I tried one out a few years ago when deciding what type of subaru to get and ,while it was good, it was not as good as the Legacy. Legacy's are far better for speed, handling, acceleration and fuel mainly because of their size and height. Unless your mtn has a really bad road with high clearance needed, or you like taking off road a lot then get a Legacy.

same experience with our 98 forester, except it was different things that broke...exhaust, gasline, wheel bearings and a bunch of other stuff

Radiators are fairly common problems on Suby's, but not too much else is which is great all things considered. If your radiator cracks in your Suby, replace it with an aluminum one and you will be set!

yeah, I wish I was getting a Suby instead of my sisters light blue rav4. (way to go for my parents to to randomly buy a girly colored car for my sister that would then become mine without saying a thing to anyone else....) but I guess I shouldn't complain because I am getting a car.. anyway, we have a legacy that drives verrr nice in the snow so maybe I'll just use that hehe. I'd recommend it.

i've got my dads old 98 outback, kinda looks like a frog since its green,.
anyways, my brothers and i only had all season tires on it all winter and only slid out a couple of times, and they were minor, so there a beast on snow.
put some studs on a suby and you can drive on an ice rink w/out sliding basically.
oh yeah, its almost got 170,000 on it and running perfectly

I've actually heard that a lot of things go wrong in the Forrester's. But in reality, why would you want one of those when you could choose from all the others in their line? The Forrester looks the shittiest IMO.
