Teaching my girl friend how to ski?!

hey guys... so im just wondering how many of you have taught your girls how to ski and have actually gotten good at it and will go shred with you and keep up super good... im just starting to teach mine i even bought her skis to get her stoked on it i got her the rossi trixies she thinks they are cute so thats all that matters hahaha... anyways just wanted to hear what everyone has to offer?!

it doesnt happen.  basically find one that already rips and your set.  its tough to do. not many chicks kill it. starting from scratch will be super shitty. good luck though

got my gf into it and shes all about it. she doesnt ride park yet, but shes only been out like a dozen times. she can keep freeriding, and is getting better in the trees, but freaks anytime she ends up in the air. shes trying, and wants to learn some park next year so she doesnt just cruise through while the rest of us hit stuff

ah yes there is hope?! haha every time i take her she gets jelous that im skiing backwards like she is stoked on it i just gotta take her more i think... the prob is she is scared of the mountain... if she was scared of it being steep she would be fine. so i jsut gotta find a way of getting her over her fear so i dunno... i hope she loves it

ya... the lesson thing is a good idea and all cuz she might actually listen to someone else hahaha i used to teach lil kids so i could totally teach her how but she doesnt like listening to me to much shes kinda a stubborn girl likes to it her own way hahaha o well as long as shes up there shredin wit me i will be happy

She rides with me everywhere.  I won't take her on like a madatory 15 foot cliff run, but anything below that she is fine.  She came a long way in the last 2 seasons and even dabbles in the park.  At the least its just another person there to pump you up and make you feel warm and fuzzy when you nail a trick.

a lot of her own progression comes from her own stokedness of the sport. my bf just introduced me to the sport and i've tried hitting the slopes as much as i can...so much fun! i can pretty much keep up with the crew and have hit some boxes. just learned some switch skiing. in short, it's possible but a lot of it needs to come from her.

ah thank you! that helps so much! haha hope you keep killing it too! i think she is stoked on it she is always telling me she wants to go but im the only one that can take her so... i think she will kill it by the end of next season hopefully! PS... +karma for the CHICK!

just ski down the mountain backwards with your fly open uphill towards her and she will come rushing down with now fear at all ;)

If it hadn't been for my boyfriend, I wouldn't have got into skiing at all, so keep at it, its really cool that you're teaching her how to ski.

I showed my Gf how to ski and she's getting pretty good. She can hang on the blue squares when we were in vermont or at winter park, but she's still working on her technique and confidence. Also I've been at it for over 15 years and this is like her second or third season of only about a handful of days out.

She does enjoy it though and we have fun out there together even if she's not quite at a level to keep up yet. She's not much of an action sport person though so I don't think she has a strong drive to really charge.

yeah its totaly possible, just take it real slow at first, dont try to show off to much, like she said she needs to want it, go in for hot chocolat lots, tell her she looks cute with rosey cheeks, haha seriously

haha yea i did this.. i made my girl a pass on photoshop, and gave her my 159 pistols cuz my fugi's bindign broke. she was liek there too big but i was liek nahh u ride it big. so anways iv taken her liek 10 or so times and she can liek ride down form the top of the mountain and is gettin good ar riding. im impressed cuz i only taught her liek once or 2 times and now when i go im liek o i wanna ride with my firneds. hahah but shes chill and she came up to me and was leik omg i did my first trick!!! and it was funny as hell shes liek wach and does a lil spin on the snow. funny sht but im glad that i introduced her to the world of skiing. ps its sometimes annoyig teaching  but when its a shitty day u just get burnt as fuck and laugh ur ass off yelling pizza! frenchfry!!

thats kinda what happened to me only she got pissed first. We were at Windham and she told me she had skied before but not in a while so im like okay lets hit some squares to get you wamred up. heh. she slid all the way down sideways crying at some points. took an hour to get down. She hates skiing.

why would you want to do that? You're allowed to have time away from your girlfriend, time to spend with your buddies shredding some gnar or killing it in the park. why do you think you love skiing so much? its an escape from everyday life.

bringing your girlfriend skiing will take the fun out of skiing. you will have to go slow, worry about her hurting herself, help her with her equipment and get mad when the 100000's of other guys on the hill hit on her (if shes hot).

this is the reason when I took my girlfriend skiing I made sure it was one of the coldest days of the year and then took her down a double black diamond on her second run ever. she never wants to ski again, and i couldnt be happier.

the best way to teach a girlfriend to ski is to pay somebody else to do it.  that way they don't get mad at you and think you are being mean and unfair when you are trying to help.

If you try to tell a gf how to ski, it will usually end in tears and anger (and no sex), but the same things when said by an instructor are "sooooo helpful and i learned soooooo much!"

this is the most intelligent post in this thread. dont do it man! I know from experience you're gonna want time away from her, and skiing is the perfect excuse. My girlfriend always asks me to teach her, but there's no way in hell I'm going to.

well, on the reverse of this...  i've skied my whole life.  and would never even think about dating a non skier/snowboarder.  I would not have the patience to teach them, cause I would want to be out ripping it and they'd just slow me down.


i have a feeling it could be the same way for most guys too.  unless you're really patient and she's just a totally awesome super chick or something and worth missing some of the otherwise cool times you'd have with out her slowing you down

jeremy, theres a couple rules in skiing and this one belongs in the top ten

don't ride with girls unless they can already ski

i doubted this season and got in a nice little tussle with lauryn

my girl has snowboarded for a couple three years now.  this year i took her up skiing, she said, and i quote:
"OMG this is so much fun, why do people snowboard?"

it was basically perfect because she really wanted to know why people snowboard instead of ski! ha

welp i took her to alta on her stuff and she is lovin it! she is just shreddin it! and Tbrody... im down to go up on sat morn... i got work at like 1? i think but.... anyways  heres is a pic of me and her in altas parking lot... i think its a nice pic.. haha
anyways she is doing good and i hope she will keep with it!

ah dude its no problem, my girl wanted to learn how to snowboard, (even tho i told her skiing was where its at) so i bought my freinds board for her, and no doubt the first few runs was HELL, cuz she fell and sat there for 5 minutes. and my freinds are skiing by me rippin on me while im sitting there trying to get her to stand up. but once she got the hang of it she skis just as fast in the park as me and its great :) last weekend she hit a ride on box, and shes super stoked now. also we skateboard together cuz shes really good at skatin, says shes better than me but its a lie 8D

massive pain in the ass, but its cool cause you can ski and chill with your gf at the same time.  my gf usually gets frustrated and tells me to go ski by myself or with my friends while she goes by herself, which isnt all bad.  and she'll be really happy because you took her skiing and made the effort to teach her.

mine just switched to snowboarding...i dont really care, but watching her try to learn is suuuuuuuper fucking frustrating...we have a policy though, i can go ride with my friends and i dont have to hang out with her until she's fast enough to cruise with us. even when that happens, though, she better get an all-girls crew to roll with 90% of the time.
