i cant get the hang of spinning fast off a jump, i can do 5s but i can never get to 7 no matter how hard i wind up, or set it i just dont get it fast enough...any tips?
wide stance, use your inside edges, don't open your shoulders. spot the landing over your leading shoulder, commit to the last 180, and you should be golden
Don't worry about spinning fast or winding up...
I had the same problem, I had a huge block at 540
Whenever I would go for a 7 i would wind up super hard and huck myself and end up panicking and flailing all over the place and then i would only end up spinning 5s and fucking them up hardcore
Just come go to the biggest jump you're comfortable spinning 5s off of, stay calm, throw a tiny bit more then you do for you fives, but don't huck super hard, that last 180 really isen't that much more rotation RELAX and stay calm in the air.
Staying calm and relax in the air was the key for me
After landing my first 7 I had no trouble stepping it up to bigger rotations cause i got used to not stopping my rotation and just staying calm and keeping my body rotating.
yea the jump is about a 15 foot table, so its not big, but theres a guy that can spin 10s off of it, and i just have trouble spinning all fast off of it
yeah if your freaking yourself out, just pretend you not even going to be trying it. except off the lip, spin just a little harder than a 7 and don't open up your legs and arms until you feel yourself just at the end of the 5 and spot your landing. then stomp it
tucking in your knees does help to spin faster, but its more important to make sure your not opening up your legs and shoulders at 540, keep them in to keep your body rotationg, and most importantly to stay calm
visualize...
before you go, just visualize yourself in the run-in, taking off, spinning twice and landing FORWARD. Big part of my block between 540 and 720 is that i forgot that i'd be landing forward. Just think about it, try feeling it in your shoulders (visualize yourself doing the spin and at 540 just keep your shoulders in and then opening them up as your almost done with the rotation).
don't worry about how gay you look the first few. first one i landed was pencil steezed to hell this year. but once you get the rotation down, you'll know how it feels and get used to it and be able to throw some steeze in that bitch. that always messed me up was just trying to make it look good and not just doing it. also, if you ski with other people that are better tell them to make fun of you. that's helped me a lot too people calling me pussy and shit till i just do it. it's harsh, but it works.
yea just go off with a good shoulder width stance, throw your whole upper body hard the way you spin, pop and if you want to really spin fast keep your legs straight out and just keep watchin over that shoulder.
i had the same proble with 7's i just couldnt get past 5. it was because as soon as i got to 5 i looked down at the landing. make sure to keep looking level and look over your shoulder until ur done the rotation.
ya i had the opposite problem, i don't ski with anyone else that skis park all the ppl that i shred with are big mountain tech skiiers. So i had noone to egg me on and go for it cuz they never understood the lure of the park. So i agree with you that if u do have park ppl to ski with it improves you a lot to push one another by steeping each other up each time. It was realy realy hard for me to learn anything bigger then a 5 without someone else that could already do it but i just did the sparta hulk out thing and it worked out alright for me.
