This is a picture of "mikee" from his profile. He clearly knows about style and the direction of skiing more than anybody else, considering he looks to be about 10 years old in this picture.

Reading the posts in this thread has been absolutely unbearable. Every finalist fucking killed it. Criticize if you want, but I sure as hell am not listening to a kid half my age that looks like that...

not everyone has big cliffs to jump off in their backyard, thats why there is superunknown so these kids can get that opportunity. anyway i think martini's got it if not brogan or compton, but mad props to everyone especially the 12 year old all those guys are sick as hell.

anyone who has seen brogan ski in person knows his style isnt a bit forced. He got the best style in the game. but martini did slay the fuck out of those handrails.

Word, brogan slays and you can tell even more so when you ski with him, plus he is def one of the nicest and most mellow people I've met in skiing, super cool dude.

As for Martini, I thought I was cool when I did a rail transfer, but holy shit, he just dominated those, with spins out on a bunch of different setups, so crazy.

why do people have this fucking retarded way of thinkking that you can't criticize on something if you can't do better.

when you watch a hollywood movie and you think it sucks, do you tell yourself "man this was so bad, but I'm gonna keep that to myself cause I couldn't do any better".  No !  You tell your friends the next morning "WOW, this movie sucked bad".

Skiing isn't different from that, it's not cause you can't throw harder than somebody that you're not allowed to like how he skies.  I never liked Greg Tufflemire, and I can say I hated his style, yet I have never thrown a 1260 in a halfpipe, not even close to one.

In my opinion the reason for many people not having pow shots is simply because even the filmers want to enjoy it. Pow is something that doesn't happen everyday in most places and when it does everybody wants to shred and theres no harm in that.

Filmers gota have there fun to!

I disagree.  All the finalists focus on rails (or at least park)-- the easiest aspect of the sport.  It is definitely easiest to film and present yourself on rails or in the park because it is the easiest to access and the easiest to get good at.  True, that is all that exists on the East Coast/Mid West, but there are many, many amateurs in the West who have shit-tons of BC to ride everyday.  Even high-school kids who can't get up the mountain until after-school can ride so many big-mtn style lines and runs that, if they produced a super-unknown section, there sections would consist of maybe 20% park and rail shots.  The problem is that; a) it takes more work to do b) it isn't promoted as the coolest part of the sport by mainstream media (such as NS) c) it is conceived as unrealistic to produce (which it definitely isn't-- my buddy and I produced this: http://www.shredbc.com/tv/whistler-video.shtml in 5 days skiing all inbounds terrain on Whistler-- it wouldn't be a superunknown finalists video, but we put minimal effort into it and its 5 days of the season).  But the main thing is that Berman seems to attract these Park/Rail athletes.  If TGR or MSP had the same competition the entrants would definitely not be 12 year old rail sliders, and the BC shots would be a lot gnarlier than a  park-skier back slapping a 20 footer on his invaders. Level-One has a style, TGR has a style, MSP has a style-- over the past 5 years of superunknown, everyone should now realize that they aren't going to see big-mountain skiing seeking out Berman for sponsorship; it's just not his style.

Berman does have big mountain in his movies, and every superunknown winner has been very park-oriented so far.
It's so true, it's really hard to get good big mountain footage in without helicopters, and booters take a long time to build when you're only up for 2 days a week. Conditions change, snow levels rise (or drop), and BAM, your jump is gone the next weekend. That leaves you 2 less hours to hit/film on that day, since you have to either rebuild or fix the booter.
Anyone who backslaps off a 5 footer cliff shouldn't really be in the superunknown finals...but I guess the park skills pretty much blew my mind so it makes up for it.

However, whipping a camera out of a backpack to film someone hitting a cliff, or stomping out a lip to throw down off a cornice or something takes about 10 seconds, another 5 to turn the camera on, and another minute to hit. The problem is, if you don't make it, hiking up steeps is a bitch. But that's what you gotta do to get a really good cliff shot.

Yeah this guy speaks the truth. The one thing: Half of Realtime was filmed in the BC. So why aren't we seeing more up and coming Wiley's entering superunknown? All I can say is I have a feeling it will change.  There is a lot of up and coming backcountry/mini golf/booter slaying talent in the west. Sorry to bring myself into this but if I can do what I would like to in the BC next year in time for superunknown, I will definately be submitting a dominantly BC superunknown entry. As for now Martini could work on his pow landings but his rails make me go hard. Antoine Caron HAS STEEZE and all the entries are solid performances. Good job guyyss.

i really dont understand how you can say martini has no style. he just has HIS OWN STYLE. sorry he's not as african as brogan but im pretty sure none of you could make a rail trans 270 out as steezy as that, even his airs. the way i see it, nick learned the tricks before the steeeze and brogan was vice versa. i think brogan has the win becasue of his video style and i personally know berman doesnt like nicks style. nick just goes out and slays as hard as possible, regardless the steeze. id like to see jon brogs do a switch 10 with more style than nick, that would impress me (PERSONALLY)

berman let us know what he wanted when he picked micheal clarke over ahmet and honeywell 2 years ago, i never got it and i never will. 

 these are the results

more kids doing the same tricks over and over on the same features with forced style and honed technique. its cool i guess, but it just gets a little monotonous and it shows in the movies. Im not trying to get people to do a barrell bonk or another lame shifty spin, there are just alot more tricks you could be doing on those rails and jumps that would look alot easier and be alot harder.

everyone needs to stop being so hung up on looking cool and start doing some legitimate tricks. looking cool while doing them would be a nice bonus




stop being so defensive about what mikee is saying hes not pissed or anything.

that year was a special year, it was the year where harder tricks started happening on handrails. ahmet and chris were definitely on a new level with their superunknown edits, they had tricks in their edits that i hadn't seen pros do yet. as for mike clarke's superunknown it didn't really represent him as being part of the movement of amateur skiing, but more of a little brother to the guys who already filmed with berman. he was basically the same person just not as good.

it was just weird that berman didn't really take the urban thing into consideration.

well if he doesn't force his style, then I guess his style is just ugly. lol. all imho opinion of course. But I mean COME ON. WHen I watch him I feel like I'm watching a parody of skiing, some kind of sick, twisted joke of what style is. Not all his shots. Some of them he just looks really solid and sick and I like it. But when he lands and like immediately adopts a pose, or like starts dancing on the landing, like a litle carve to the left and swinging his uper body, and then a little carve to the right... EW. and then he like doesnt even land properly cause hes all like loosey goosey and shit lol....
