Most pointless subject in school?

so what is it?  back in high school I used to think it was math, but now I really like math and I think it does have uses even if your career is completely unrelated.

right now I think its geology.  like seriously, when am i ever going to use this in real life?  even in a conversation?  I am not saying its useless, my uncle is a resource geologist and became a VP for shell (hes also a douche and absolutely loves Bush).

its so boring I cant stand it.  after this class ends I am gonna offer this kid 20 bucks to let me photocopy his notes before a test so I can just stop paying attention.  fuck mandatory attendance.

geology is not important at all for:

foundation (so buildings and bridges don't fall down)
aquifers (drinking water until we desalinize the oceans)
snow science (there are exact parallels between geology and snow science)


maybe its too hard for you

Geology is practical if youre going into the field. Even if you aren't, It can also be very interesting.
But I guess that can apply to most things.
Most pointless for me was some "living" course I had to take back in highschool. It was a sincere waste of time, although the course I chose through a local college made it more interesting, but still. I guess that school since changed that class to a "senior experience" class or something.

It really depends what your planning on going into, for me the complex math was absolutely useless because im doing a business degree now, I don't really need all this calculus shit for that, its just basic math that i need.

i think everything is usesfull to certain people.  but for most people, complex algebra and like calculus and stuff like that is pretty pointless. like algebra is good where you make an equation and graph it, like everyone can use that, but once it starts getting in to dumb shit your like alright now this is just anoyying.

I took this class in high school and learned how to cross-stitch, balance a checkbook and take care of children while having a career of my own. It was seriously like a class they would have taught in the 1950s.

I say trig...it is so retarded, when am I ever going to need to know the sine of pi? What a waste...other math is okay, I could see myself using algebra and stuff regardless of my job, but trig is just retarded.

geology isn't important? It's the science of the fucking earth, the thing you LIVE on. How is that not something you should be educated about? Math and science are both applicable to the real world (depending on what kind of course) so they both make you a more rounded person I'd say. Personally, I don't care too much about english stuff. I mean, the reason we made up languages was so that we could communicate with each other, if you can read what I write and know what I mean why the fuck does it matter where the commas are and which part was a prepositional phrase... honestly? fuck off english.

All math/science related courses are extremely important for everyone!  they teach you applied critical thinking and problem solving, as well as provide an unparelleled understanding of the universe. 

I would have to say sociology is the most pointless subject.  anything of importance in sociology can be taught in 2 hours.  Psychology is also bullshit.

so far, for me, its Art 2:foundations of studio art.  but if you want to get into academic classes, probably the Pearl Harbor to the Atomic Bomb class i took on VHS where i learned nothing, or maybe world history.

Im going to go ahead and say art of film... at my school you watch movies every day...... not complaining its a sick class.... but very very pointless. Another would have to be Skills Development.... basically a study hall that you get credits for.

Key part of that is 'have uses even if your career is completely unrelated."  You must have missed that, because you listed three careers that would require majors or P.H.D.s in geology of some kind.



But that's OK, I guess English was too hard for you.  Understandable with your icon.   By the way that movie sucked complete ass.

In case anyone didn't realize I am talking about subjects that are unrelated to your major/career.  Someone could say government or history classes are useless as a math major (although I still think those classes are somewhat useful regardless) but to me, a poli sci major, they are useful.

Yah I understand it's about being educated about the past events so we can learn off them and not make it happen again. But history class to me has always been "Here take these dates, events, and names and memorize them" not "Ok we are learning about this so you can prevent it from happening again" maybe me history teachers just suck but I just really never enjoyed the class

i gave the geology = snow science example, because perhaps being on a SKIING site, you might be interested in snow science. 

let me know what other classes you take are skiing related.  i'd guess none if i wasn't a fucking moron.

Well, thats such a loose connection I suppose you could connect virtually anything to skiing.  Who really takes their snow science knowledge to the hill with them?

As long as we're pulling loose connections I'd like to add art, plastics engineering, wood/metal shop, thermodynamics, optics engineering, calculus, chem, and economics to the list.

some of our biggest problems stem from the fact that those involved in the political process avoided all science classes in school because they thought the classes were "pointless".  i would hope that you would take the time to learn about things now, rather then get voted into office and produce (scientifically) stupid legislation later.

maybe in high school, you could consider certain classes pointless.  but in college you should be taking the opportunity to learn as much as you can about everything before you graduate and only have time to focus on your career.
