I used to smoke, and yes we all know its a bad habit. but I only smoked 2-3 cigs a day. my roommate smokes less than that, and goes good chunks of time without buying any.
what people who don't smoke don't realize is that a certain percentage of people do not like tobacco. either it makes them sick, or doesn't give them a buzz at all. so the next time you bash smoking, just remember, often times its not the fact that you have some sort of great willpower or are so much smarter than other people. its that you do not enjoy cigarettes, its in your genes. if you enjoyed nicotine like I do, then perhaps your story would be different. for me, lighting up a cig after a hard day of classes just made the stress melt away.
also one more thing: anti-smoking ads. why do they have to lie so goddamn much? there are plenty of reasons smoking is bad, but apparently:
1. smoking will make you fat
2. smoking makes girls grow mustaches
3. smoking causes you to hock up huge nasty loogies
4. kids would rather eat a piece of shit than smoke a cigarette
5. cigarette companies make cigs with a "magical amount" of nicotine--just enough to get you hooked, not enough to kill you. this is the worst. obviously they aren't going to make a product that kills people. are you fucking kidding me? its the tobacco plant, people have smoked it for centuries, and yes it contains nicotine, an addictive substance but thats why people smoke for fuck sake.
so yeah I am glad I quit smoking but when I did smoke I got really tired of getting shit for it. I guess my point can be related to coffee. some people don't like it, and some are addicted. I love it, but I can go without it easily. do I think I am better than people that have to have that morning cup to function? nope, just wired differently.
