Anybody else have this problem with their parents?

So....here's my rant for this entire season.

I live in San Francisco, where the skiing in tahoe is 3-4 hours away and I rarely get to go skiing, normally like 15 days per year. I just got into newschool last year, and my dad has HATES it. He thought it was a phase and that I would get over it, but I haven't and I never will. So I asked my mom if I could go to High North and she sent me and my dad thought that after a week of straight park I would get over it. Boy was he wrong. I became more obsessed and I can't stop thinking about skiing every day like many of us. So my dad now won't EVER let me go up skiing on the weekends, and only lets me go when he wants to go, which is rare because he doesn't like to take me to ski park, even though my friends who have cabins invite me all the time and go up every other weekend.

Now, my parents won't even let me go up to COC even though I can and will make the money.  This is the most frustrating ski season of my LIFE. I really can't stand this shit any longer and Im gonna call my dad every day next year at the U of Utah and tell him im going skiing EVERY SINGLE DAY.

damn my parents thought it was a phase for about a half year. Then I started landing bigger stuff and they were like "shit ok go for it" and now they support me in it, and not hindering me at all.

my parents were both races back in the day and  they used to really hate how i dont race and i ski park and bc stuff. but ive gotten pretty good at park and bc and they are fine with it now.

nope, but my mom doesn't like what I do in the park.. She gets scared and worried, typical mother stuff. So she just doesn't watch me. But I went into the freestyle club instead of the race club, so they're all for park skiing and all the jazz.

my mom understands that skiing is prolly the most important thing to me so she is doing soo much to keep me in my school (wss) so im happy,

my dad is trying to convince me to ski like once a month instead of everyday hahaha now that my knee is all fucked hes like yea if u keep doing it ur not guna be able to walk later on hes like whats better skiing once a month and walking for the rest of ur life!!? or skiing now then being disabled for years hahaha

hes also trying to convince me to be a lawyer instead of getting involved in the ski industry haha i just laugh, ski= life

18. If I go and drive my life would be over. But you know what. I don't give a fuck. Skiing=life as the girl above me stated, and since my life is already over. I'm over partying, honestly its the same shit every weekend, you get drunk, smoke some weed and socialize. I would much rather go out and shred any day over partying.

Seems to be the opposite with me. My mom hates it, and the only words she'll say to me before i go is be careful and then my dad will just sit at the bottom of the terrain park and watch, he couldn't care less. But my mom doesnt try to hinder my attempts to ski.

Actually the complete opposite is when people support their kids through and through. My friend's cousin, Miles Honens, rides for Line and lives in the same area I do. His parents let him go to school monday through wednesday and ski the rest of the week, and he's only in 8th grade. That would be my dream situation.

My rents absolutely hates freestyle skiing. My mom is paranoid about me hurting myself, and hates the image associated with freestyle skiing. My dad thinks that it's distracting me from school and hates what I wear skiing. The only reason why I've been allowed to ski is I volunteer twice a week teaching disabled kids to ski which has been deemed worthy in their eyes. The people I teach for hook me up with a season pass every year so I don't have to ask my rents if I can get a pass. Oh, and my mom forces me to wear cumbersome knee pads but I ditch them in the lodge after I put them on in the car.

thats pretty gay. check this out: my dad refuses to give me a ride to the mountain most weekends, because i dont have a 4.0GPA and my little brother does. on top of that he bought my brother a private park lesson, and a new jacket. it just pisses me off that cause i don't kiss everyones ass, and waste my time doing superfluous bullshit that i dont get the same treatment as my other sibs.

there are peoples parents who don't support them SKIING. this is a newsflash to me. is skiing looked at differently outside of utah. is it like skating how everyone thinks they are all low lifes and drug addicts or something when that definitely isnt always true. this really just blows my mind. everyone skis here and no ones parents think anything of it. not the ones i know at least

The utah lifestyle is completely different than the one I am living right now. I can't wait to get over there next fall. I don't think I'm ever gonna leave :)

my dad is all for it. he was kinda a ski bum back in the day for a little and he is good as shit at skiing. he is always down for watching me in the park and gets pumped when i land new shit. my mom skis as well and thinks i'll get hurt but she is still cool with it. they both know skiing=my life and they are all for it anyways...

My dad sucks at skiing because he goes once or twice a year, is 54, slightly overweight and doesn't give a rat's ass. so once i was better than him, which happened at about age 10, he allowed me to do whatever i wanted. That is harsh though, you will appreciate it more next year though i guess

My dad loves to ski, which makes things awesome, hes a good skier, so its not a bummer to ski with him and stuff, hes almost 50 now and he can watch me in the park for half the day, hes amped about what i'm doing, he does research and shit to see what the best park skis are, and either buys or chips in on my twigs, hes actually takin some hits this season.  Its a good time.

at least you get to go to utah next year.   you should really never complain about anything ever again.  i have to stay in virginia and ski at the worst mountain ive ever skied for the next 2 years.  get over it.

i was in the same exact boat 2 years ago then my dad realized i was actually decent at it and began to be like hey whats that trick. and know when we go places well stop in ski shops and he'll say something like they got those new armarda tommy hall skis you like ill laugh  but its cool cuz hes 53 and is sooo old skool

you are 18, if you were 16 it would be different, just move out after you graduate, if you do they will miss you so bad they won't care...just save up a ton of money so you have cash for rent after you get back from the camp.

That sucks, my dad loves it.  He keeps pushing it and trying to learn new stuff.  Nothing big in the park, but big mountain is fun with him.

my parents aren't into skiing but their general rule of thumb is if I pay for it on my own they aren't gonna stop me. they're also pretty nice about it if I need money for a trip or something, but anyway dont sweat it if you are comin to the U next year you are gonna be skiing all the time and it'll be awesome so just look forward to that and work all summer so you don't have to worry about working so much at school.

tonight i ran away from my mom because she wouldnt stop telling me how much she hated who i was, am, and will be. holy shit it was the worst speech ive gotten from her. but i ran away for like 6 hours.

my mom was just as into skiing at my age as I am, she tells me story's all the time of going to random mountains in the interior BC, boot packing up, staying the night and skiing down. so shes just as into it as i am and wants me to try as hard as i can, to get as good as I can.

Thats bullshit man. If skiing is your passion, your parents should be supporting you in it. They should be glad that you are generally interested in being on the mountain instead of doing any of the thousands of stupid fucking things that an 18-year-old could be doing. I just can't fathom that they could be so controlling over you that they wouldn't let you go ski. Thats unbelievable. Tell them that I am embarrassed of their parenting skills. Fuck.

My dad grew up skiing and goes up as much as I do, he's fucking stoked that I love skiing. I don't think he loves that I ski park but honestly to him as long as I'm enjoying the sport he's cool with it. My mom would be dumb to talk shit on skiing when my dad's such a fanatic so it works out nicely. I'd die in your situation haha..

Dude what's up with them? I take it skiing is your favourite sport/hobby or w/e and they are stopping you from doing. If I were in your poisition I would just wake up super early and get a ride without them knowing. Bro, your 18 they shouldn't be able to control your life like that.

My parents are just as much into skiing as my brothers and I, though more-so my dad than my mom.  He's totally chill with me skiing a lot, and wants me to live the life of a ski bum cause he knows its gonna make me happy.  Honestly, if you have to suck it up now and deal with your parents its gonna make it all that much sweeter when your on your own and your able to ski all you want.  They're gonna get the picture sooner or later, cause they can't run your life.  Good luck with it! I think i'm going to U of U not next year but the year after, even though im graduating.  Gonna live in utah, get in state tuition, and ski a lot = ]

You're 18 and you still have to ask your parents where you're allowed to ski? Really? Do you still have to ask if you're allowed to eat fruit snacks? My parents have dropped me off at the ski hill since I was like 13 years old. Then they just say "Be careful, don't hurt yourself" then I show them a video of me eating shit on a jump and they just say "you need to be more careful"
