I posted this in Appleheads, but I want/need a quicker response:
So, something went wrong with my MacBook a few weeks ago and it would not start up. I brought it to the campus computer help center, and after hours of searching, they figured that the login window was crashing. Their solution: reinstall leopard. Before this incident, I had 25GB of space on my hard drive, and life was good. After reinstalling leopard, making sure it turns on now, and taking it home, I realized that I had lost OVER 20GB OF SPACE. Where the fuck did it go?? How can I get it back?? Now, I have 1GB left, and I need help. Are there some kind of archiving files from the reinstallation that I can delete now? Help me damnit!
I'm hoping I can get an answer here before I have to make a Genius Bar appointment. +karma and a personal visit on steak and a bj day for any help. Thanks!

when you reinstall leopard it gives you two options. A clean install and a archive and install. My bet is they did archive and install which saves everything on your computer even the old os. I'm not sure where it saves it too, just rummage around your hard drive

There's your problem brother. You went to the fucking NU tech center. My roommate is on of them and he's completely fucking retarded, especially when it comes to macs. He has absolutely no idea and most of the guys down there are clueless. If you get a long break on a weekday ever take the green line down to park street hop the red line and go to kendall/mit stop, catch the shuttle bus to the cambrigeside mall and head to the apple store. you'll have to call ahead and make an appointment for a week in advance though...unless you have procare. Sorry I haven't checked appleheads today.

pretty sure it saves it in the User folder. Just open up the Hard Drive window and you'll see it.

ok i think i found something. under my hard drive i've found a folder called "Previous Systems" that was created what seems to be the day that this reinstallation happened. in it is an applications folder holding all of my apps, a library folder, a system folder, and a users folder. anyone who has macs, do you guys have this previous systems folder in your hard drive?

try using finder and seeing if all your apps pop up twice, if they do delete them. And just check some of the files that are listed in there to see if they're in there twice and if they are throw them out.

yep, that is the archive install folder. It includes all the information from your account prior to the crash. So all your music, programs, documents, ect. Copy what you want out of the previous system folder like music and documents, then delete it. If you have any questions hit me up.
