Mounting point for pipe?

Yesterday I was skiing with some biddies and one of them had Elan twins. On the skis there were three mount points, traditional, pipe, and rail in that order. So i'm guessing that traditional was behind the waiste, pipe in between that, and rail either core or true. What the fuck is the pipe mount? Do people that have a pipe specific ski even know what this is or do they just go for either core and true?

i think that most people mount them center for pipe bc thats how they want it....thats probably just a reference point...however i would think that pipe and rail would be really similar...how far apart are those two?
