I think this is actually not too bad. It is a fairly healthy raise (though I probably would have given him what he wanted, but I love the guy) but is only one year giving him a chance to build on his success and make a case for an even bigger contract next year. Which he could well get. 900k a year for 3 years, or one year at 757k and 2 or 3 more at 1.5 million+? I'd take the second. Papelbon is also eligible for salary arbitration after this year.
