So I am thinking about trying to get assigned to Alaska and I was wondering out of curiosity how it compares with Colorado. I know there is a shitload more snow, but what about weather? Is it ever just too cold to go ski? The coldest I have ever seen it here was -26 static. And how about park? Any at all?
cold is not a problem unless your in fairbanks and there isnt skiing up there worth leaving.. our park is actually pretty descent this year.. as for weather goes, it can be sketch, rain and snow but mainly snow.. its legit but yeah, back country is sick as well
Well if you like to ski park...you might want to stay in colorado, although every park in AK is stepping it up, we'll never compare to colorado. Alyeska has some amazing terrain and alot of backcountry possibilities around. Fairbanks fucking sucks, don't come up here.
ive skied both intesively and it all depends on what youre into. the steepest illest shit at the resorts in colorado is mediocre compared to the basic shit at alyeska. but the parks at breck and keystone are two of the best in the world, and alyeska doesnt have much for a park. so in the end, it comes down to what you like to ride. and you probably wont see many days up here in the -20s anymore with all these mufuckin greenhouse gasses.
