Another potential option for skiing

So those of you looking for other options to ski in the summer and winter, would a park outdoor/indoor interest you? Just curious, I'm in the process of planning a blueprint for a project and would like some feedback. Hood/Whistler aren't cheap but do provide the best of the best, but this particular project would be in the city providing a extra alternative.

That would be sweet to have, I'd drive south a lot to ski it, but just so you guys know, we in WA are gifted with having places with snow in the mountains all year around. You can ski Baker most years, all year, and many people have jumps and jibs set up in this one area up there.

correct if im wrong --im slightly new to the area, but cant you ski nearly 10 months out of the year? My housemates were skiing all last summer on the leftover snowpack...

Like I said, as long as you're willing to hike a bit, or even drive most the way to Artists Point at Baker, you can ski ALL year.

I don't get this ski "season" nonsense. You can ski all year, you just have to be more motivated in summer and fall.
I don't really see that indoor stuff as skiing, it wouldn't be nearly as fun as snow. At the end of September that might change, but when real snow is only a hike away? Nah.

The thing for me is finding people who are willing to earn their turns. Everyone thinks im nuts when I say that I have hiked resorts after the season has ended. They look at me like I am retarded. I cant afford to drive to Baker when no one wants to go with me. Especially when gas will be $4 a gallon this summer and ill be doing summer school in Ellensburg...

yeah there is no way i could drive out to baker
if so maybe like once, too far away
and ^ agreed, most of my friends already make fun of me being ski obsessed, and most of them never like to hike rails, and never jumps. i cant even think of one person of my friends that would do that lol
and anyone know how long snow is at alpental for? i need to find some places near snoqualmie pass

Baker and Hood are where its at in the summer. Shit, the step-over was there and doable for a month after the ski area closed.

Well I hiked Stevens into July I believe a few years back. I would love to hit up Baker if at all possible this summer. Aleptnal will be open into May I am im guessing. Snow should hold well into June and maybe July, especially with such a great snow year.

you just got to hike harder. It won't be powder (although not unkown to happen) but you can still shred the gnar,

Let me put it another way. Two years ago, the last day Baker was open, was one of the better pow days at Baker that season.

While hiking is a great option and should be done but this is more for the city. Waking up and having the option to session a park (while artificial) still having the ability to carve, work on those rail tricks and session the foam pit. Currently plans for a foam pit, and a rail park and possible halfpipe. This is similar to many skate parks, but for skiers/snowboards.

Currently I'm still working the business model, I also want to move but I would at least like to have a foam pit/rail park open up in Seattle.

I'd pay to go there at least once this summer. Sounds fun, I say go for it.

sounds sooo dope. but i bet it costs a lot of money to start it up and to keep a facility like that running
since it is unique
i used to race R/C cars and many places closed down
good luck

Do it. YOu have no idea how much business you could get if you got the right advertising. You would seriously have to turn people away. So many kids with nothing to do, and a legitimate handful of rails to hit near by? I'd go everyday if I was in high school still.

Thanks for the comments and the interest. I'm still in the planning phase but hopefully by the summer I can obtain some of the material used for this project along with a flat rail and a box(have to build them both), for summer sessions.
I just need a location to put the rail/box(granted its not difficult to build). But ideally a foam pit is my main goal. I look at how much motorcross/bmx/DH all blew up when people started learning crazy tricks in to foam. Water ramps are cool, but you get wet (which is not bad for the summer) and access is basically nowhere unless you want a 5 hour trip to Whistler.

It's artificial similar to the stuff they use on the water ramps are park city, but way better. I was able to try out some of the material when I visited the UK a few months ago. You able to carve and turn, it was pretty insane. Having a indoor facility with a foam pit/rails and a halfpipe would be such a great option for progression and just plain all year fun.
