Why are irish people so proud?

Has Ireland actually done anything? Really... anything?

I'm just saying this cause I know I'll be super aggravated in a couple weeks on St. Patricks day when everyone claims to be Irish and acts like I should fucking care.

im irish but i dont think im any more proud than and other kida person. mabey there all drunk and then they get made fun of for being drunk all the time, then they get mad and say that being irish is the best.

Lotsa people are proud. Nationalism becomes big trhough some kind of hardship typically. LIke the famine and emmigration to the US. Irish people have just generally been proud for forever, it's part of the irish culture. It's real fun to see the irish nationalism living in boston though, they're crazy there.

St. Paddy's day is cool, but I totally know what you mean. I have this friend thats only like half Irish and he's always like "Ireland this, Ireland that" and it pisses me off. He talks like Ireland is the greatest country in the world when in reality its not, and he's not even that Irish. If all people that are of Irish descent are like that I can totally understand why they would get hated on.

I'm Italian and I don't consider myself proud at all. Like I would never say "I'm Italian" unless someone specifically asked me. I keep that to myself and I don't try to claim and act like I'm the shit or something. Maybe thats not how everyone is, but thats the way I am.

They left what the knew, settled in foreign land and successfully pulled off the fantastic little community I live in today (it's 180 years young).

It's nice to remember your culture even if it becomes more distant every generation.

I'm 50% Irish, and I have never noticed any unusual pride in the Irish side of my family. I do love Saint Patricks day, but its not for the drinking ( you don't need a special day to drink). I like it because it is a holiday that does not involve buying presents (consumerism), its just about hangin' with friends and family.

i'm 50%irish 50% sicilian. not bragging but my grandparents were all immigrants and came to this country and did the best they could to make my family what is today. damn right i'm fucking proud to be both, but i don't boast, ever. i actually hate when people say how italian they are or say i'm not white, i'm italian. yeah that was cool in middle school but some people are real fucking annoying.

i go to a school where everyone is either "irish" or "italian". the reason i'm using quotations is because none of these people could go to their respective countries and go visit family members or anything. YOU'RE AMERICAN, GET OVER IT. it pisses me off because i'm scottish, and when i say that, i mean i have a house there, i'm a citizen of the united kingdom, and half my family is there. i don't go blabbing about it and putting flags all over my dorm room. people act surprised when they find out i'm legitimately scottish...not just 1/100th

most people are proud of their heritage.  personally, i'm 90 percent german, i suppose we don't have quite as much to be proud of.  and cheesy though it may be, i'd say i'm proud to be an american, no sense in adopting the pride of a nation my family hasn't lived in for over a hundred years.

two times a week or less? that's pretty weak...i don't even think two times a week is borderline...but this is completely off the subject...being irish is definitely an excuse to have a good time one day of the year, but good for them if they're proud of it. it's not just the irish who are proud, most nationalities have some pride (except american-germans, it seems). at psu st. patty's day has been falling on spring break so we invented "state patty's day" a few years back...def an excuse to party haha
