Lemme just say first off I'm still in high school, I got a 1750/2400 on my SATs, I earn a 2.8 GPA, and don't and never will take AP history nor any college level courses. I have never taken economics nor comparative politics. I am not bilingual, have visited other countries for several days, stayed in hotels and went sight seeing. I believe I know more than any presidential candidate, any congressman, and any climatologist. I'm a liberal but i don't really know what liberal means or what it entails. I fail to draw the distinction between liberal and democrat; conservative and republican.

Dude America sucks. Look at our economy! It's in shambles! Democrats will fix it!

Also, if we just tried to attempt to make peace by sending in our orchestras with Iran and North Korea, nothing bad will happen! They don't hate us! Its all just propaganda! Lets just all be friends!

Other countries are so much better than America! Look at the falling dollar! Do I even know what happens if the dollar drops? Look at how much we pay for produce, milk, eggs, and gas! God, I'm sure other countries would be better. Look at our poverty! I feel disgraced to be American.

We are too nosy! We shouldn't meddle in international affairs! If Iraq wants to invade Kuwait, thats their right. If North Korea wants to test nuclear weapons in range of Japan, thats their right! If Russia wants to aim nuclear weapons at England because England wants a missile defense system, thats their right! O'bama '08!

America is so corrupt! More corrupt than any other country. More corrupt than all the other countries combined! I have no freedom! I have no free speech! Democrats will fix it! Liberals will fix it!

im thankful to say that i only made it to about the second sentence before realizing that you were operating on sarcasm level eleventybillion. some of the kids on here are a little bit more subtle than that though... you have to at least give them that.

if you dont like it move, but if you do the whole broad assumption thing than you're missing the point.

people dont like the direction the US is headed, and because of that and their personal fear that the big bad government is going to do something if the speak out (which is rediculous, unless your a minority), they vent on here.

you dont have to read their topics if you dont want to.

some of us maybe. I however, got a 2190 on my SATs, 34 on my ACTs. Took AP US, Mod, and Art history. I took microeconomics at Syracuse, then again at Northeastern. I took comparative politics at Syracuse. I am chinese. I speak chinese. I have lived in china for more than a year and every other year spend several months there.

As for the rest of your post, you have no idea what you are talking about, so i wont bother.

define "better"  this is a pretty broad term

there are places that do some things "better" than us but in an overall sense i think we do a kick ass job.

i think that the people of some other countries enjoy their lives alot more than people do here, just because we make more money doesnt mean we live happier lives. Alot of americans are miserable. Look how many obese people, high school and college shootings, serial killers, and narcotics agents we have in this country.

the chinese government is sooooooooooooo terrible. You can see it from the outside. For example, when the rolling stones were scheduled to play in china, they weren't allowed to play half their songs cuz they were against the teachings of the PRC. Also, on every channel in every hotel, if anything about china goes on, it turns to static- no joke. There is a "discovery china" and hbo china which have carefully selected programs available in hotels.

There are also automated speed check points that are purposely made to falsely read as speeding in order to generate revenue.

The government is sooo damn corrupt. I would know cuz my moms side of the family has ties with the former "prime minister" and somehow for doing nothing every single relative on my moms side of the family is well off. Like no one owns houses in china, its all these huge bare cement apartments, even in rural areas. But some how my mom's side of the family has houses. No joke, even they admit it. And if youre going to say pics or it didnt happen. I have them.

Everytime i go there, i like to complain about how much better america is. But my dad is very strict on me keeping my mouth shut when we go there, cuz for real you can get in some shit if you say anything bad. Like once my dad was doing some business and i tagged along and we rode with some popo guy. I started to say something and he was like watch it bud. And this was in shanghai too, one of the more "developed" areas.

So the next time you think america is worse off than other countries think again.

Ok you want me to rip apart your lil thing, prepare to get pwned.

Ok first of all, all youve done is taken my mockery and turned it into a serious version. In other words, you've basically done the reverse of mine but in a very superficial and uninformed fashion. All fluff, no back up. I am a conservative and know much more about politics than you as i actually have taken politics in college, as well as APs in high school. I know full well what it entails. Do you know what democrats entail?

You know nothing of economics. Yea our economics is in a recessive period but its cyclical. Note, we had a near recession in 2000 too. If you knew anything of stocks, you would know that a modern free market is cyclical and will have recession. The best thing to do is for the Fed to lower interest rates, and cut taxes. EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT RAISES TAXES. This is not an attack per se, but simply a completely concrete fact. Its part of what the party aims to do: make the government bigger. Democrats don't necessarily destroy the economy, but they do make it worse. Historically, governments intervening in economical matters have been disastrous. I don't feel like typing it all out but look at rent control. It never works. Subsidizing certain things rarely works. If you'll study economics one day you'll realize how harmful intervention and taxation are. Arguably, FDR's New Deal was terrible too.

I know what you're going to say. You're going to say under the Clinton administration the economy was doing great. If you weren't going to say that, then well, you're dumb for not pointing it out. But, clinton was economically conservative, and at the same time the internet just came to fruition. The .com boom was the real reason the economy was good under clinton, not because a democrat was in office.

We really cannot make peace with Iran and North Korea. Its not the people themselves are inherently bad, its that the regimes that control these states are terrible negotiators. They are totalitarian inferority complexes. That doesn't sound pleasant. Trust me, you don't know what its like over there. There is some serious hate between totalitarian governments and democratic governments. Totalitarians believe western ideologies threaten their control over their countries. They fear they will lose control of their countries from an uprising. They know historically revolts have been successful and due to mankind's innate love for power, why shouldn't they want control of their country? I also never have and never will say nuclear weapons should be an option. I'm pretty sure no real politician has ever pushed for the use of nuclear weapons against enemies. If i won't quote michael moore, will you please not quote Savage?

The USA probably cannot sustain being the best country forever, just as Great Britain didn't stay the dominant country forever. But as of now, trust me America is the best country on earth for more reasons than i can name. Go buy one of those world atlases that has every stat imaginable for every country. In it, you'll see america comes first (or last depending on the intent of statistic) in more than half of the categories and is in the top 3 for ALL the rest.

You realize, conservatives like isolation and liberals like international relations right? Its liberalism that got us into all the alliances that require us to be World Police in the first place. Every other country wants us to be world police until we do something that is not in their best interest. Take off the tunnel vision glasses and take a look around.

Why stick the thing about Muslims in there? Is that even necessary? Is it a pathetic attempt to make me look irrational. We have the most liberal free speech and checks in our government. We definitely are not free of corruption, but i guarantee you, if corruption was a marginal thing, it would be clear that America is the least corrupt state on the face of the planet.

You really think you're something special eh? All I see is someone who lives around assumptions. As soon as someone says something critical it becomes whatever you want it to be... saying "usa isn't the best" isn't equal to saying "usa is the worst" yet somehow you construe that.

Plenty of people walk around talking and acting like the USA is the best country in the world. They think things along the lines of: “our military is so tough that we will kick your ass and take your oil because we want to.”America is chuck Norris and everyone else is a limp dick baby.

You can't be upset with Americans who look at this and say to their countrymen what the hell are you doing to our country. Water boarding, illegal phone taps, tread all over the bill of rights and the constitution and still call this the best nation in the world? You've got to wake the fuck up; there are other countries out there that are doing a lot better than the US is right now. Maybe it's the countries that have health care for everyone, maybe its countries that are participating in the Kyoto protocol, maybe its countries that don't treat drug users as criminals but as patients. Some countries are smart enough to ban capital punishment, and some countries take advantage of their freedom to vote. 

I know USA isn't as bad as some places out there, but this doesn't mean it doesn’t have problems, and seeing that USA is my country, I’m going to have a voice about wanting to make it better.

i know for a fact that you wont do this, but in case someone else does, read a book called "the case for goliath"  its about how the US acts as a de facto world government at present. the argument being that its not perfect, but its the best scenario that we can realistically have right now.

For someone who is quick to accuse of living around assumptions, your post is rather indicative of someone who bases their arguments off very broad generalizations ("They think things along the lines of: our military is so tough...") with few facts to back them up.

I gather that you're upset about some specific problems (water boarding, phone tapping, etc.) so you assume there are better countries. However you don't seem to know what countries are better, or why they are better...

I agree that the USA has problems that should be publicly discussed, but nobody is denying that fact. This thread is about backing up opinions. Can you back up yours?

I think this thread is more about jumnster's response to my thread "land of the free" ...among others, that simply about backing up your opinion.

For backing up my assumption of the bad-ass American view, I kind of took it for a given fact that these people exist. I'll just use bill o'reilly for an example, if at least a portion of his viewer ship holds his views to be truth, and agrees with him, I rest my case.

I'm upset with these as a few examples of our countries ills; for the most part I’m more disgruntled with the attitudes of Americans than the corruption of the government. You can find shitty politics everywhere. You're right in that I don't have a great amount of knowledge of other countries workings; all I have to go from is personal experience. Personally NZ is the country that I like most, again I’m not entirely familiar with all the aspects of government involved in NZ, and what I liked most about it was the lifestyle that people lived down there. But I do know that NZ provides national health care and that it isn't just a bi-party government.

I think the majority of the argument you're looking for me to make has been made elsewhere, and this thread isn't the place for me to put it.

You make a very big assumption that I could never have an education that could compare with yours, so you assume your opinion is automatically more valid in any argument you make. There's no way in hell that I could be in college too. (OMG) All i'm going to say is that your assumption of me is wrong, and you need to take your "I'm in college" argument and just shove it up your ass already. Obviously my post was on the extreme end of things that was the point, I know you didn't say nuclear weapons should be used. In my last post, I did! And I also said muslims are evil! Like it or not there are opinions like that floating around out there, so does that mean I was directing it towards you? Was I targeting you? No. Unless you want to take that post with a grain of salt, don't fucking read it.
I agree with you, the U.S is a great country, I like living here, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be aware of what's fucking happening and what the brick heads in washington have been doing. You'd be amazed at what a little blind patriotism can do for you. When you say the reason the economy did well during the clinton years was because of the ".com boom" that is an assumption not a fact. Over the past 50 years with each republican presidency, unemployment rates have been significantly higher. Bush is no excuse. If you would like to believe that the current "Conservative" (matching political viewpoint that you like to label yourself) Bush Administration has done an amazing job over the past 8 years, and if you think the IRAQ war is great for the economy, the countries reputation in the world, if you think Bush has a brilliant environmental policy, and going into Iran seems like a good idea than maybe you my friend (John McCain identification technique) need to take off the tunnel vision glasses and open your fucking eyes. I am not even going to start on this, if you would like me to, maybe later but I'm going to go outside now and live my life.

Wow shows how much you know. The reason the economy did well during the clinton years because of the .com boom is not an assumption, IT IS A FACT. Almost every stock purchase was due to .com companies. If you had any economical knowledge at all, you'd know that. And that fact with the past 50 years thing, where'd you find that statistic? Imagination.com? Because its NOT true. Theres nothing to debate, you simply made that up. Do you know what causes unemployment in the first place? Unemployment is caused by a raise in minimum wage. Minimum wages are raised by democrats.

Are you kidding me? We are currently running an unemployment rate (~4.9%) that is lower than what the majority of economists would consider ideal in a perfect economic model (5%).

And Clinton had virtually nothing to do with the economic boom of the 90's. The fallout of the Soviet Union coupled with the internet/telecommunications revolution were the biggest factors. If you ask any professional analyst they would agree.

Yes it is an assumption that this is the only reason it did well, yes I agree the tech boom was very significant and was the main reason the economy flourished but clinton knew how to balance budgets. Long story short, bush inherited a great U.S economy, and took it down the toilet by starting an idiotic war paid by credit. And for the 50 years thing no i did not make shit up, why don't you look at this graph and tell me where they generally rise?

Thats bullshit. You can't honestly suggest that any president can orchestrate global economic development in other parts of the world. It can play a factor, but it is rarely if ever a main vehicle for it.

oh fuck off. i've been living on maui living a hell of a life the past two years without a dime from my parents, I worked three jobs, and worked my ass off to live my dream. I have some money to go to college from my grandmother that died, she wanted to invest in her grandchildren's education. I am very grateful for this. I could have shut the door on an opportunity to go to school and stayed on Maui living on my own. I chose to move to Portland to go to school because i want to open up my options, when I'm done, chances are i'll be split living part time in Maui / Hood River. I don't need an enormous house. I don't need a fancy car, all I need is my windsurf rig, my skis, my friends, the oceans and the mountains and I'm happy. It doesn't matter as long as you enjoy what you are doing, make plans to reach your goals, work hard, and are confident in yourself, the money comes.

Yea man, those people are totally ignorant for thinking there might be a better way to go about things. The world is totally perfect as it is, and we should probably just sit back, shut up, and not give the people in control any problems so that this perfect world continues to function as is.

FUCK YEAH AMERICA. We rape bitches cause we can, and so we don't have to work very hard for all this stuff we don't need. America is on God's team so its ok too.
