Insane Rail at Redbull Crystal Competition @ Tremblant
This rail is set up for the Redbull Crystal event, happening at Tremblant this Friday. The rail is actually the craziest thing I've ever seen, its like 25-30 feet off the ground. someone may die.
That's pretty dope. The color almost makes it look like aluminum and I can only imagine the pain caused by an aluminum rail that high. (I'm sure they wouldn't be idiotic enough to actually use aluminum)
yeah i just googled the comp and it looks like it is in fact snowboard olny. i guess that fat wall thing in the middle in the second or third pic is some sort of "glacial 30 foot drop" or sumfin not really sure what i read.
haha...i saw some kid on a snowboard sack himself, it was on a 20 foot or so shotgun rail, the setup was like this minus the g-nar chump bump... _______________ _________/ | |
...newho, he shorted the rail and sacked himself tryin to bs it, pretty funny to watch.
wow, that rail diagram did not work out at all. i'll just quit while im ahead.
spark notes: snowboarder sacked himself tryin to bs a rail and came up short but the first support for the rail was some 2-3 feet in so he pwn3d his balls
I love the progression of snow sports and how people are really taking things to the next level, but this is just plain ridiculous. They are simply going for the big factor... it is like seeing someone do a straight air out of the pipe 22 ft: you can only see it so many times and be impressed by amplitude only. So the first 10 boarders or so to go off will be astonishing, but after that it is pointless. The risk factor for the viewing return value is horrible. Seriously, if one person accidentally bails it will be many broken things, and possibly a paralysis or death. Is that worth a single photo? Your life? Your ability to walk? I know I am an old man and think far more conservatively than almost all freeriders, but this is plain dangerous and unnecessary. I cannot believe folks at Tremblant passed this idea.
a quote from CR Johnson in Seven Sunny Days went something along this line:
"Someone asked me one time is skiing was just starting to get to crazy. Skiing to me is what i love, even if it means i could die"
i think this is just another example of you having to push the limits. a 360 off of a jump does not win you a competition anymore. but a 270 off a 25 foot high straight rail. damn.
^^
and how seeing people go off that get boring? do you see people get bored after people hitting a half pipe because they go up the same wall 10 times in one run? i dont.
word, this sport can be as dangerous as you want. of course its the nuttest rail ive seen and someone is for sure going to get hurt but others are going to throw down even after taking the risk.
