Hey,

I live east coast, and mostly ski Vermont... so we get some crappy conditions. I ride park / mountain about 50% but have recently given up rails. I still like to go big on jumps, mostly throwing 360+grabs to 540+grabs. However, I ski Colorado twice a year and love powder. I'm looking for a ski that i can take to the big mountain powder. I go out west about twice a years so i would like a wider ski. Some suggestions have been above. Can anyone narrow these or offer some suggestions???

It really depends on preference.  I have never tried the scott punisher, but I will rate the other three for you and hopefully that will help.

Flex from Stiffest to softest:  MSP - 8, BCs - 7, Seths - 5 or 6

Fattest to skinniest - Seth (but only at the tip and tails), BCs, MSPs

Sidecut from shortest turns to longest turns: BCs, Seths, MSPs

Hardpack performance (IMO) - BCs, Seths, MSP (that that is only because i prefer a shorter turn)

Durability from best to worst: BCs, MSPs, Seths



When I have been in your shoes in the past I have most loved the Scratch BCs, or brigades or S3 or whatever they will be called.  They perform really well all around, still have good energy for a stiff ski, and hold up really well on the topsheet with semi-cap construction and are pretty durable on rails.

Hello,
I've taken your suggestions in getting the Scratch Brigade, and the new graphics look sick!
Now I's 6'2 and I weigh 185, should i get the 178 skis or the 185 skis?

I just got a pair of BC's before this season, and i'm absolutely in love. I ski vermont every weekend, an they've handled great this season. I went to alta this winter and they handled like a dream in waist deep snow.

If you ski the east most of the time I might get something a little narrower. I have the Dynastar Big troubles and love them to death. They are a great park ski, but at the same time can float well in soft snow and are absolutely amazing crud busters. I highly recommend them.

Amen. Bc's slay everywhere. i've skied pow and some big mtn at jackson and the canyons, ripped around sugarloaf, and hit up the parks in 7 springs and liberty in PA and they are solid everywere. much better hardpack performance than the seths and light as anything. get them, you wont regret it.

Ok, so here's where I'm at. I'm locked into the scratch Brigades, cause I really want to get out west and ski big mountain as much as i can. I'm gonna get the 185's and I am also going to get the 08 scratch 120 binding with the wide brake. Final question is where to mount the bindings? My buddy suggested 3cm back from center, but i was thinking a little further back.

mine are between modern and standard, because the shop messed them up and i didnt want to change it. I originally wanted them at +2 from modern, which i think would be good for everything. but i dont really notice how much father back mine are monted, they are fine switch and slay powder like crazy. so i would mount them maybe +3 from modern, but no more if youre going to ski pow. you mihgt even want them at like +1

ive got seth's (-3 mount) and scratch's (-1 mount) and am about your size.  i'd concur with getting the scratch's even though i ride my seth's more (in washington state).  plus the scratch's are wider but shorter now than my halloween colored ones. 

and buy 'em quick on backcountry.com for $420 and use the money you just saved to demo some rockered skis when you're in colorado

Id say good call, on ski choice, length, and price.  I ski the BCs mostly on the east coast and I love them.  They seem like the perfect ski for you.  Im 5'10 175 and I ski the 185 as well, and I like the way they ski.  They're not too long at all, and I can maneuver fine in tight trees.  You found a great deal dude, props, and enjoy them
