Sierra ski and snowboard

That is very strange to me. I've never really heard a bad thing about that shop. they are ussually really legit about things...

I guess that gives me a one up in saying my shop is better.. (seeing as we do NOT pull that shit..)

sorry to hear about your bad experience at sierra ski and snowboard.  I try and turn eveybody i meet onto that place.  I live in tahoe and buy my gear from there.  prices are ridicoulous.  at the begining of the season this years gear is 20% off.  NO shop in tahoe does that.  The ski tech that set up my park skis was legit.  I get better service there than i do at the "core" shops in tahoe.  wait a month or two and you can get ALL of this years gear at half off!?!  its hit or miss on skis but they have a big selection of snowboards. I guess i have never called for gear though.  i have either ordered online  or gone down to sac......

They're running like 30-40% off of gear right now... I think their shop is pretty legit. They're big that's for sure... Sorry to get off topic, but does anybody remember Tri-City in Fremont? They used to be the place to shop!

If you actually lived in Tahoe you would not say that you shop at Sierra... Their are so many amazing shops that have employees that actually ride the gear they sell and not BS you into the door... And many of the shop up here are 30% off or higher... I smell Sierra BS in this post. Anybody that has to paint mountains on their walls and and blatantly confuse people is not legit. Their head ski shop guy is legit, he once was the Dynastar rep for many years but the rest of them are dumb wanna be sac kids who don't ride.

um didn't tri-city go out of business like 3 years ago and then move and rename it Sierra snowboard...?

Just FYI - there is a shop in Tahoe that will do that for true locals and people passionate about skiing for the right reasons.  Porters will match Sierra's (or anybody else's) prices ANYTIME.  And I will personally make sure that you have the best service and shop work from my employees and ski techs who were standing in line at KT-22 yesterday at 6am alongside the pros and squallywood "heads of state".

porters has always been great.  prices, service, "core".  yet I did have a bad experience there last year.  over the phone, the employee told me my skis that I bought online (meatloaf code was awesome, I also bought boots), would be at the shop and I could get them mounted with my own bindings right when they open.  i ski south shore, so i don't go up to truckee too much but i was wanting to ski.  i get there, and they were like, umm no, our techs don't get here til like 11.  i was pretty ticked and wanted to ski so i went to another shop and paid a grip to get em mounted up so i could ski.  other than that, they're cool.  but it goes to show you, not all of the shops will please everyone, all the time.

Super sorry on that.  Last winter was our first in setting up a separate call center / internet support center that dealt with all of the customer calls for all 4 of our shops.  Unfortunately we had a few examples like yours where there was a "disconnect" between what someone in the call center was saying versus what someone in the store might say.  Or, like in your case specifically, the call center "assumed" what time the back shop techs were scheduled to show up to work that day without double checking with the shops. 

In a common sense fashion, we now have all of the shops schedules posted in the call center so we can tell you what time a certain employee is supposed to be at a certain store.  Everything is a learning process when you are growing and expanding and adding employees like we are.  Hopefully you'll recognize that we care about making your experience with us better.  It's precisely because of feedback like yours that we continue to make changes and try to improve.

I live on the south shore.  don't make it up to the north side all that often in the winter.  I have been to your truckee store once this summer.  I had a good experience but I was only buying softgoods.   guess i was mostly referencing sports LTD.  every time i go in there to get work done by their techs (they are one of two shops on the south shore that i know of that work on rossi/look bindings), i feel as if I owe them some huge favor for them working on my gear.  there are good shops down here.  I tele as well and have had great experiences at sierra ski and cycle, but gary is a super guy.  

in my humble opinon techs make the store.  i bought a pair of boots and skis from sierra ski and snowboard.  I had some rossi bindings i wanted mounted but did not want the lifter plate installed.  they did not have the short screws in stock.  I believe it was thier head ski tech who spent over an hour hand grinding the screws down.  charged me something like 20 bucks.  same exact situation a year or so previous in tahoe.   bought a pair of skis at LTD and did not want the lifter plate installed.  they only had four short screws in stock.  i had to go out to other shops on my own to find the rest so they could mount them.   

 I respect the fact that you will come on here.  the next time i am looking for gear I will look your way.  I would rather support a local shop than a valley shop but in the end you frequent a shop that you have had good expeirnces at, decent prices, and a good sized selection

Although I was unhappy with Sierra Ski and Snowboard for lying to me on the phone, I did purchase some Intuition boot liners from them. I skied on them Sunday and only part of Monday because my shin bang was so bad i couldn't ride anymore. I went back to Sierra Ski and returned the custom fitted liners that I highly doubt they can resell. They surprisingly took them right back.

Does anyone know of any reputable boot fitters in the area? I am in the east bay, but i will go as far as reno to work with someone who knows what they are doing.

Cosmos custom foot werks in Tahoe city is pretty much the best boot fitter in the world.

I'm always going to wave our flag being understandably biased.  Alex and Bill and Segal in Truckee or Gaines or Houston in Tahoe City or Tony in Incline would all be guys that I'll put up against anyone with a heat gun / punch / dremel wearing a lab coat claiming to know the "secret" to boot fitting- including Cosmos.  It's really not rocket science....more like being a good doctor and listening to / observing the symptoms and coming up with a good prescription.

To that point, I 100% agree with Sean about Rob in the Concord AM.  He's been there like a decade and I've heard sales reps say positive things about him.  To further my point, besides our other competitors in the area that have multiple good boot guys, former Salomon race director in the 80's and 90's and former Porters buyer Jim Schaffner has his own high-end race / labor shop called the Start Haus in Truckee. 

I guess my main point is that just as there are lots of good doctors in the world, there are lots of good boot fitters too....maybe just slightly more of them in Tahoe than in the east bay.  But I agree with Sean that there's a good one in your own backyard....

ps - oh and etom as long as you didn't take a deuce in the liners or let your dog chew on them they can still be remolded safely a time or two thus being "resellable" and what any shop worth its salt should do if you were properly fitted and yet still hate your boots - take them back

word. bill helped me out and he took so much time making my boot work perfectly for me. no problems at all with fit this year. and he's cool as heck.

Yeah, there are tons of bootfitters around...

just make sure you dont go to Sport Chalet to get fitted. Those guys are retards on a whole other level when it comes to fitting.
