With the avalanche danger being very high this year and many people dying while in the back country I thought I would post this video up here.

It is about 35 min long and goes through what happens to 5 skiers, that know tons about avalanches and safety, that push it just to much. It is a really great video that I think people should watch. Keep safe on the mountains everybody.

(if you're talking about the book) pick it up ASAP because it is currently out of print but you can still order it. it mainly focuses on long treks (camping, etc..) but it does have chapters on avalanches, snow safety, and backcountry ethics. it inspired me to do some winter camping

my mom made me watch that a month ago. it's a good thing to watch if you ever stray from the resort... in fact, it's a good thing to watch, no matter where you ski.

yeah that's a good video. i think a lot of people (myself included) tend to be overconfident because they have beacons and everything and they're skiing in the trees.Â but none of that helps if you die from trauma before the avalanche even stops.Â

I didn't watch it, because I had to watch 4-5 avalanche videos already in oudoor pursuits class, but yeah, you really got to be careful and make sure you know what you're doing in teh backcountry, It's really tempting to just go rip, but you have to take precautions like digging snowpits, analyzing teh slope & c.

That is true, it is what makes this video hit closer to home. It gets you to think about that you are never safe, and always need to be ready and prepared.

this totally changed my view on avalanches, because I always thought that I wouldn't be a victim cuz im no where near good enough to be skiing big mountain lines and chutes where avalanches occur, kinda like the ones u see in ski movies.

It just totally changes your perspective on things, waay diferent than other avalanch safety vids. Those safety vids tend to work the other way I think, they make you too confident. This one you have something to relate to, and I think it will save lives for sure.

glad this was made sticky. and thats a really good video its sad but it shows us that although we like to shred down a fresh pow line that is kinda sketchy it really could be your last if you arent careful enough.

The mountains are to be respected and we need to acknowledge that. They are big, fun, and majestic but also a force to be reckoned with.

we did watch one like that, but it was dramatized...not a real situation but it showed the after effects of losing a friend in an avalanche because they weren't prepared and didn't take any precautions. It showed the guy who's friends were buried in grief counselling and stuff.

ya check out the trailer for that new 16mm avalanche education movie coming out next year. its on biglines I think Fine Line I believe, definantly the best idea I have seen this year

wow this is a great video. hits pretty close to home seeing as i have skied lines like that, without any equipment not thinking twice. i can't believe that guy survived with his leg like that. i can just really put myself in that situation of trying to push it a little bit more when you think it would be fine. really inspirational movie as well, plus some good info. definitely good idea this got stickied.

I just watched this in my level one avalanche class a few hours ago. It definately hit home for me. The two patrollers teaching the class said it was one of the best videos they have showed.

I watched this awhile ago, I think right when it came out. I'm going to give it another watch tomorrow. I may not be in that sort of terrain right now, but this video shows the need to be aware of the conditions no matter where you're skiing. I remember it being pretty emotional, definitely an eye opener.

thats a real good video. Its too bad how they went to one tiny little less dense area, with less trees, and thats when the avalanche began. Its just such a chancy thing when you ski b-country, and you really dont think about it when your out there cause your just so stoked.

This video also shows that no matter how much knowledge you have (Blake had a masters in snow science) that you are still a mortal. I hope no one takes offense to that but a death like that could happen to anyone and a group decision needs to be made by every member of the group every time when in the backcountry.
