Marker still sucks once more ...Broken Duke!

Aftrer only touring a dozzen or so times on the Dukes the rails that ride on the plate under the toe broke. I was in touring mode and apparently put too much pressure on that side of the binding... Anyone els have this park break...will try to get pics up soon

ya I called the shop today they might just give me a pair hopefully,  otherwise they will send them back...the rails that broke should be some type of light metel not plastic

I have never seen a binding that I would pay that much money for.  I would only mount Jester's if I got them free, and I would never mount that huge ass duke.  Come to think of it, I would just sell either one and buy a different binding.

naxios only go up to 12 or 13 and the dukes go to 16...and the naxo's have been known to crack as well ...

I've seen a gnarly break with naxos before, from just skiing normally on like a groomer. made me never want to trust them.

they have a lower din aswell and put you very high off the ski (less edge pressure) so I defnitily do not want those...

I was at the wolverine cirque and was skinning up theback side track which was on a side hill angel  and put too much pressure on one side of the binding and the rails on the toe that slides onto the tracks broke. Luckly I was able to lock in the heel and one side of the front tracks into the binding plate and made my way back down to brighton...

isn't the duke the alternative to fragile touring bindings. a din of 16 and a 425 dollar price tag should be attached to something you're not supposed to be fragile on.

ivenever tourered, so this is just a noobish question, but what are the downsides to getting some of those things that you just clip into normal bindings that allow you to tour? like couldnt you just use them for gettin some where and then take em off and not have to worrie about switch landings and durability?

stories like this make me glad that i chose sth 16s instead of dukes on a ski that i wouldn't have done much touring on.

With a toe pivot and a detachable heel, there's not really any way touring bindings will ever be as durable or stiff as alpine bindings.  And $425 really isn't much more than you'd pay for any other AT binding.

That being said, Marker has had a few issues with the part the OP broke this year.  But generally, as long as you're just doing normal skiing (ie, not spinning, skiing switch, or massive hucks) touring bindings work great.  However, if you expect them to hold up to landing switch you either have no idea how they work or are completely retarded--or both.  I know I wouldn't trust the little piece of plastic on my Naxos to hold up to an impact like that.

^ ya I just think that the track and rails the track slides on should be some type of lightweight steel or alu...insted of plastic ( I know they were trying to save weight but they are already heavy so they should of tryed to make to make them stronger in the parts that are critical...

Yeah, that'd make a lot of sense if they did that.  With how big those pieces are it'd add about as much weight as some ice on your boots anyway, so hopefully Marker has something better in the works.

^ thats a good idea..I wonder if any demo plates like the rossignol onne would fit the track on the toe and heel of the binding I know they look very simmilar but not sure..

^ ya but now I cant skin for 2-3 weeks...although a new pair will be nice I was stomping on the bindings to try to get them back in the tracks and they have seen a good amount of use...

does it really matter how high the din is if they always break
idk id rather have a ski pop off then have my ankle pop off cuz my din is at 16

I've been dropping 30-40 footers with them no problem, coming up short on front flips no problem, etc.  Sometimes binders break.  Downhill performance blows freerides or naxos away, i wouldn't trust any other at binder on skis as wide as mine (136 underfoot), because they don't have the wide footprint.  Mine are set at 13.5 and haven't ejected once.  seem pretty fucking solid to me.  First year binders have shit that needs to be tweaked.  You knew that getting into it, but yeah still sux ballz.

This is what makes tele so great. you get a much better kick out of the ski when your touring, and you can charge it hard, land switch, basically rip it as hard as you can. with out the worrys of being easy on your equipment.
