Spinning Both Ways

I personally try to do it as much as possible and think its really important. Who does it wand what are your thoughts?

i have a mental block on doing right 5 or more, my body just wont do it. my right 3s suck major balls too.

am i the only one that thinks there is too much of a stigma on unnatty spins? i mean in snowboarding its taken as a given that guys spin FS and BS- in skiing someone does an unnatty spin and everyone's like "holy fuck you have any idea how difficult that is?!" then in comps you get some shit analagy from the commentator about how its like a right handed person throwing a ball left handed...
don't get me wrong, i'm not great in the park- i'm a right spinner that can't do shit leftside but all i'm saying is that in snowboarding the riders throw shit left and right as a matter of course without placing much emphasis  on which way is "natural" for them...

spinning both ways is definitely important for a comp skier. But I think with todays level of skiing, it doesnt matter whats your natural side, you just have to be able to spin both ways with similar technical moves and amplitude. The way judging is set up they may award you more points for spinning both ways in one run(provided the judge notices this, and at B level meets its hit or miss), but if you were to do an entire run unnatural it would most likely not get scored any higher.

The sport is still evolving alot. so I think unatty spins will become alot more common thus resulting in it being so important for scoring. but I need to practice this too. i suck at spinning both ways though, haha

i do it a lot. but i cant spin more then a 5 unatty. but unatty looks a lot more stylish

It's important now, but once everyone masters it, it will no longer matter... and also, some people might have mastered spinning both ways in such a way that spinning RS and LS is no different for them. The upcoming breed of skiers will be bomb.

I don't get how they compare spinning unnatty to throwing a baseball with the oppisite hand. I ski and play baseball and throwing a baseball with my left hand as well as my dominant right hand is inmpossible. I throw mid 80's with my right and cant even throw decently with my left. However, Unnatty spins in skiing aren
t as impossible as that.

I've never snowboarded but when I used to skate it didn't seem that hard to spin both ways. Is it just easier to do on a snowboard?

I spin right, and can only do 180's left. I'd like to get better spinning left, but I would rather get up to bigger spins right first, then tackle the unnatty stuff.

I other words, I'd rather be able to throw 5's, and 7's than 3's both ways.

There's always something to learn though, right?

last year i got a decently smooth five to the right and left is natty for me

now i can hardly do clean 3's to the right.

I usedto do it a lot, then for some reason I stopped cause I didnt like it as much.  I do some leftside stuff every now and then but I dont feel like that's  something where I want  my skiing to go. I do it cause ità's another way f doing a trick but it's definatly not my priority and not neccesserly where I want m skiing to go.
 I'm stoked on how the kids are getting so good a t it on jumps .

haha nice claim. Yeah thats true but if u had practiced throwing with both hands ever since you first threw somehting then you could probly do it about the same. You just havent been spinning one way for 18 years or however old u are.

i personally could care less about spinning both ways. I can understand how its important in comps because its a much more difficult trick. The only reason i would really want to learn both ways is bc it can be easier to spin off natural features if u can spin both ways

just why would there be such a stigma if it wasn't true?  if you've ever snowboarded or skateboarded you know it is completely different.  The stance makes it so you can spin fairly easy both ways.  It is so much easier to spin like that than skiing.  The fact is, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. And yes, you are the only one that thinks there is too much of a stigma.

i just learned switch right 7s with mute.
what is it when u do a mute right hand to left ski spinning right, is that like reg mute, opposite, lead? whats the name

i do it because i think it add alot more technicallity and i think that its gunna start becoming more important as the sport grows. I also think that just being able to do every trick both ways with good style should be better than a hucked double.

Yeah, I think most people spin left because there are more right handed people out there and they use their right hand to throw their spins.  I naturally spin right though, and I see no reason to force myself to spin left.

guy i ski with does all of his spins over 360 right side now because he dislocated his shoulder twice on left 540's, dragging his arm. he's pretty much comfortable spinning both ways now, he sucks dick at skiing so it can;t be that hard
