Okay.. let me rephrase..
Proof that RWD still rules in snow if you KNOW HOW TO DRIVE LIKE A SWEDE.
FOR THE RECORD, a blow off valve is not needed, but is stronly recomended. its job is to release pressure into the atmosphere. This is important because when you release the gas, or shift, and your engine does not want the boost anymore, it has nowhere to go and backs up in the system. This is called compressor surge. It can severely damage your turbo (normally bearings go first). When a turbo car spools and you dont make enough PSI to blow off (normally determined by the spring in the BOV), you can hear this compressor surge, it kindof sounds like a whoosh, but it is as if its going through the blades of a fan; it cuts out and whooshes again. personally i think it sounds awesome, but it is a form of compressor surge and what you are hearing is your turbine inlet wheel being spun backwards by the pressure because it was not released into the atmosphere. thats all i'm really going to say on that topic because i want to go to bed lol.
as for a blow of valve hurting preformance, the only thing i've heard about that is what i stated above, or a boost leak at the blow off valve if not installed correctly. Also on 1.8T's i believe they use a recirculating system, which i personally dont know too much about, but i heard getting just a normal BOV will cause the car to run very rich which will hurt preformance.
yee diggg!!
