Hey, I am relatively new to NS and so far think this place is awesome!
I just thought id throw out a thread and see if anyone had any suggestions. I am looking to buy a car, i just turned 16, and have been looking at both the Xterra and 4runner. I just wanted to know if anyone had either of them and could tell me how they have preformed for them in the snow and just all driving conditions? Whats the best for the money?
Probably a 00' or 01' Xterra, or a 95' 96' 4runner. Thanks

i have an 02 xterra and it's pretty good all around except gas mileage but since the other option is an older 4runner i don't know how much of a difference there will be. the x drives kinda rough but i have yet to get stuck ( knock on wood) and overall i think its a pretty solid car...i'd say test drive both and see whch feels better to you

id go with the 4runner way more reliable cars u c tons of old ones still running fine but try to get one 2000 or younger because the newer ones are really much nicer

Well said, Toyotas in general are tanks that last forever if maintained a bit. They aren't as finicky and needy as many of the other car makes I've driven. My advice, hands down go with the 4-Runner.

i have a 00 pathfinder, i know its not the cars you mentioned but i will tell you, dont get nissan from my experience, my car is the furthest from reliable, and its under powered, 165hp in a truck, and no room under the hood for any mods, towing sucks. From what i've heard older 4runners are great. reliable and great offroad/snow

i think the newer xterra's are a step up from the old ones. my bro has a 06 xterra and my uncle has a 96ish 4runner and theres not really much comparison IMO

ok dude, well i drive a 4 runner myself but its still my parents and i have been looking into buying a used car.
You have to watch out for used cars.
Cuz A 4 Runner after 97 is super legit and will last long, but anything before then has had a lot of troubles with maintnence and stuff. Sign up for consumer reports. Your parents probably have an account. Thats where i got that info for.
But an xterra would be sick too.
my best friend has one, haha.
