Replying to Couple questions about buying metal / building
Alright, so jumister and I have build our fair share of pvc rails as well as a drop in, so we know how to build solid stuff. The only problem is that the pvc rails crack in the cold. They were great for summer set-ups, but when we used them in the cold they cracked after some 2's on. So we're looking to improve on our jibs for the winter, mainly by moving to steel.
What's the easiest way to make a good quality steel rail? I know welding one would be the best choice, so I'll have to see if I can get access to a welder, but what are some other options? I've seen people attack steel tubes to wood (basically like pvc rails), how well does this work, and do you just drill holes in the steel? Also, more importantly, where's the best place to get steel, preferably cheap. I know new steel is pricey, but is there any good place to find used steel for a decent price? I thought about maybe going to a junkyard and seeing if there's any scraps that would be good, but it might be hard to find straight pieces long enough. What do most people do?
