Completely took out a gaper

So yesterday I was skiing switch on a groomer....like some huge turns I was cruisin, and I'm lookin over my should and theres this lady like way to the side of my, so I turn opposite her way....and right when I switch shoulders to look over BAM I completely nailed her.  She completely cut in front of my i guess, but it was completely painless for me.  My skis fell off and i literally was like laying on her as we fell.  It was pretty incredible, but she was really fucking pissed. The end.

Not really his fault if people cut infront of him. I have had people cut infront of me on the way back to the lodge and have had to carve hard just to evade them. Greenies are assholes when it comes to skiing etiquette.

Listen to this shit:At my hill we have 3 jumps in a row in our tp, well i hit 1st one and about 60-70 feet  later is the 2nd one. Well anyways after i hit the 1st jump there is a gaper with rentals (in our tp your not allowed to have rentals in it) going across the 2nd fucking jump came out of no where and he literary almost stopped on the lip so at this point i had to carve around him and i pretty much went off the side of the jump and almost ran into a rail near the jump. So anyways i confront him at the bottom of the hill and was dude u cant just go across like the jumps like that. He basically says it was my fault because i saw him and i could slow and he was the downhill skier, then i said since it was in a terrain park the rules would be different. Well anyways this guy could fucking kill me with his one hand he was like 6'3ish and like a shit load heaver then me, so he apporches me in an aggressive and i just skied away like a bitch lol. Anywas sorry for the rant, but did i have the rightaway since it was in the tp...

on that note i have done a 360 and come around and hit a gaper in the shoulders with my tails
homie just decided it was a good time to rip across the knuckle as i was hitting the jump.  luckily neither of us were hurt and he was chill and apologetic about it.

HAHA same exact thing happened to me some bitch cut me off (she worked at the resort too) and i was going fast as hell but i usually look around carefully she was skiing fast too one of my skis went in between her legs her ski came off i fell she didn't!!! i was being nice and she goes well its not recommended skiing the way you are BITCH i skied away switch (hey that rhymed) end of story.

really sounds like your fault 100%.

Not trying to be an asshole or anything but its always the uphill skiers responsibility to avoide the people below him. Ive been blindsided a few times by people above me (normally when im just standin still chillin) and i can understand why she was pissed.

wanna hear a worse story about gaperage... right when i was learning rodeo 5's this fucking gaper decides to cut in front of me and go off the jump, falls and yardsales on the landing, so i had to land on the fuckin gapers equipment and when i landed i just yelled AAAAHHHHH, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE PARK

I've run into a few people at Louise this year. I know I'm the uphill skier, but these guys were just off the wall. One guy was sking in his own little track off to the side doing quick turns, so I came up pass him and then all of a sudden he banks hard to the left for no good reason and takes me out. Sometimes you just can't predict the shit some people will do.

I've sorta learned to look out for these kind of people now. If they are wearing Jeans, and sort of cowboy regalia or those crazy neon jackets form the 70's then I steer the fuck away from them. No telling what they are going to do.

In conclusion, some people are just dumb and should not be on a pair of skis. The downhill skier does have some responsibility to avoid those in front of him, but the lead skier should not ski like he owns the hill and is having a seizure at the same time.


Now boarders who sit just below a lip are a completely different story...

carving switch is a skill i would want to learn while attempting to maneuver around rails and snowboarder powwows. going down a trail switch isnt a problem unless what he describes happens frequently, and yah its his fault.

and yes, i totally agree that the uphill skier has a responsibility to avoid people downhill from them, but you can't always predict what people are going to do (especially when they're traversing the entire trail with every turn). my mom drilled it into my brain to LOOK BEHIND ME before i change my line...so if you don't do that, you can't really get that mad at someone who nails you if you get in their way..its the same as not checking your blind spot if you change lanes on a highway.

if the slope isn't cut up i usually ski switch for at least a bit of it just cause its fun.

gapers suck

i make a point of breaking as hard as i can right behind them if they cut me off just so they know never to do it again and get off anything thats not a green circle if they can't make moves

i kno, i should promote the sport and all, but just stay on the beginner slopes if ur a beginner...

i was just fucking around one day a few weeks back and a snowboarder cut infront of me. i wasnt using poles at teh time cause i had a fractured hand and i took him out and i guess i kinda bear hugged him while doing it, i laughed, he was pissed

Yes Im lame because I share a different viewpoint.

Personally I dont get what is so great about going backwards down a hill.

Switch skiing should not leave the park..it is a recipe for disaster, especially when theres gapers on the hill, as noted in this thread.

If I'm skiing switch and I see gapers below me, I revert to forward and slow way down. If I'm skiing forward and I see them, I slow down and use caution, or sometimes snow them good if I'm in a vindictive mood. You never know what crazy thing will come into their minds next, so you just have to be careful around them, because they have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

man, you are the most single minded person ever. the whole mountain is a playground, i ski switch like everywhere because its good practice too and you just get more and more comfortable the more you do it. ive never hit anyone and dont plan on it, cause i have just as much control skiing switch as forward.

i was skiing switch last week when a fuckin snowboarder cut right in front of me so i had to revert really fast and i caught an edge cause i was goin too fast and fell on my head and then i got a concussion which made me miss this week of skiing so i hate fuckin retards.  wow that was a huge run on sentence.

heh..not necessarily saying theres absolutely NO place except the park, but my point being is that you should not be skiing switch on a trail with other skiers on it, where it could be a potentially dangerous situation. theres certain places and times for it, this instance was neither. for instance i see people skiing switch straightlining down the most popular trail on my mountain. its pure ignorance and does not belong there.

theres good reasons why A LOT of skiers do not like newschoolers. you guys are demonstrating it. this kid is even pushing it by blaming it on the women..and its clearly not her fault. the downhill skier always has the right of way. i hate people cutting in front of my just as much as anyone else. deal with it.

i made this post knowing i was going to get hated on. but you guys have to come to a realization that skiing switch is potentially dangerous in given situations.

I partially agree with you. If a run is populated then I'll ski it straight. But if i'm there at the crack o' dawn and I've got first tracks with no one in sight, I'll hit it switch without hesitation.

You have to excercise some responsibility on the ski hill. Granted if a person is skiing a line and they randomly veer in a direction across the hill without looking, then it is as much their fault as it is yours.

Point being, look where you are skiing. Usually you can spot gapers and noobs just by what they are wearing or how they are skiing. When you see them, take a line on the other side of the run just to play it safe.

Determining where to ski switch is kind of similar to determining where you should be skiing regularly. You shouldent be skiing switch unless you are 100% comfortable with the terrain and you are 100% out of control.
Because some park rat wana-be (not saying anyone who was involved in teh original thing is one) skiing out of control switch somewhere he shouldent be is just as lame as a gaper straight lining it without knowing how to stop.

Basically if you have the ability to ski switch in control and be aware of your surroundings theres no issue with it. Just use your best judgment and dont push it.

also, I actually do agree that there is a certain critical mass of people on a run (especially with a notable percentage of the people in cowboy regalia) where skiing switch is generally not the responsible thing to do.  You can be Pep, Pollard and Mahre all rolled into one talent wise, but skiing switch always leaves a very blind side.  If you need to practice your switch agility skillz then try the trees.  They won't make unpredictable moves on ya. 

that being said, I ski switch a lot outside the park, and enjoy it.  just not on the one green circle back to the lodge with the 395877943 tourists on spring break all swerving around on.

agreed. they seem to think that because they are going slower and taking up more of the mountain they have superiority. i'm not sayin that if you're flying by them to not be courteous, but damn when they turn into you and act like its your fault.... thats annoying.

same exact thing happened to me last year but my skis didnt fall off and the little girl went flying and the patrollers had to take her down. i felt bad for her cuz she was in a lesson and the teacher told me it was the second time that day that someone ran into her.
