dude 42$ for a t-shirt is not too much at ALL. thats the price of a regular tee at any skate shop and they only get more expensive.

No, he doesn't.  He thinks $42 is okay for a piece of cotton fabric with a logo on it.

And you are even over-stating the price.  A plain t-shirt is literally less than a dollar to produce, but around $2 to the end-line consumer, and printing, you are correct, could be up to $4 depending on the design.

I really hope no one buys that stuff if it costs that much.

I just have this to say, and I'm aware it sounds kind of haughty, but with the complete lack of understanding of what looks good you people have, I wouldn't want to be seen with any of you. Not because you don't think Empire looks good, I don't think it looks all that great myself... but because you're saying you wouldn't ever buy (or, therefore, wear) anything that costs more than 20 bucks.

I shudder to think of the crap you're all wearing.

in a way though, is this not like creating an upscale brand image? Looks at other brands that target customers with $$, the hope is that the brand doesn't get played because not everyone can buy it only those with the money. So maybe it's a good thing that not everyone can buy it hmm I don't know, personally I would not spend a dime on any of it.

youre saying you wouldnt hang out with a person because they wouldnt pay 42 dollars for a t-shirt, does a piece of cloth really mean that much to you?  everyone is on a different budget, and if you "shudder" at the clothes somebody else has on you need to land back on earth, the only difference between a 42 $ t-shirt and a 10$ one is the fool that thinks hes the shit because his shirt cost more than somebody elses.   ..... are you that unhappy that you need expensive cloth on your body to feel good?

let's just say there is always time and place to get decent clothing for cheaper then what they usaully sale for. (as far as spending money on clothing)

looking like a freestyle skier right now pretty much mean looking like a thig anyway since most ofthem are really young and dress 3 times as bigas they should on every occasion.

you're shitting me right? 42$ for a t-shirt is fucking rediculous. T-shirts are like 20 for any regular skate company t. and the beanies are rediculous. I think it's tight that dumont is starting up his own company making stuff for skiers but he makes it way overpriced, with the exception of the bandanas, i personally can't wait to see the price tag on the gloves, i'm thinkin they'll probably be in the ballpark of $120.

im pretty sure they are just saying 42 dollars for a t shirt is  ridiculous, you have to admit it is, thats like how much a gucci t shirt costs. it's cotton and print. I will gladly drop 50 or more on a polo or button up but for a cotton t shirt??come on  no way they should be charging that.

the only reason hes selling his shirts at 42$ is because accomplice makes them and its an expensive he doesnt se the prices, he can influence them and choose if he wants to work with that company or not but if he wants to seel em for 20 we then they'll drop him.

ok, you say they have outragous prices but people are still paying for their products. I think if anything your just jealous that they cost so much because you want it but don't think its worth the cash. however, by making threads about this subject you are only hyping the company more, i've been thinking about it, i've been to the empire website twice only after hearing about their awesome new product through ski equitment threads. From a business approach, they'll hit the same or if not more profit margins if they sell a few less at the current price than for a few dollars less so they do not lose any profit on it as long as there is a buzz there are buyers.

Hahahaha a gucci t shirt? Gucci isn't a t shirt designer. Maybe for a shirt that says "Gucci" on it, but that's just them fucking with you, making you pay money to wear their logo and be a billboard, it's not a design. Christian Audigier, Ed Hardy, Juicy Couture (to some extent, not a fan personally), ENERGIE (fucking awesome), CnC Costume Nationale, Affliction, D&G (though not so much lately)... those are designers that make tees. And you will pay over 100 bucks for any of them.

Tee designers in the 42 dollar range are Obey, Grn Apple Tree (really really cool shirts, look them up), Artful Dodger, Monarchy (actually more the 60-70$ range now), Apartment, Jack Jones... there are lots, but we're not talking Gucci here.

exactly.  I am a teacher and wear a tie, button down shirt and nice pants every day, but not a single part of my attire ever costs more then $30, and that is for some top of the line calvin kline pinstripe pants, not a t-shirt.

Well good for you. That doesn't mean that there's something wrong with people who want to spend more on designers because they think it looks better. People can dress the way they want, if a CK shirt tie and pants is good enough for you, fine, CK doesn't look bad. I have a couple of Ck shirts. It doesn't cost under 30 bucks though, I don't know where you got that, Ck ties msrp 55.00, shirts from 45-85ish, pants and jeans 100-120.

But don't hate just because people like the way certain designer clothes look. My Dolce&Gabanna shirts look way better than anything Ck I own, and I think the way they look is worth it. So let people spend their money how they like.

That being said I think there is a line to be drawn on the low end... seriously, I know it sounds kind of stuck up but I don't really want to hang out with people who look like complete slobs. Now most of my friends don't spend stupid amounts of money on clothes, but they still buy what fits their style and try to look good. If your foremost concern in buying an article of clothing is that it cost less than 30 dollars, well, you probably look as cheap and shoddy as what you're wearing.

By the way, this whole discussion is off topic. I don't think that empire tee is rad enough to be worth 42 bucks, but I wouldn't buy it at 20 or 10 bucks either, because it's just not my style. I'm just saying that there are t shirts which are EASILY worth 42 bucks and more. For example, the grn apple stuff I posted that link to. And that if you're not willing to pay more than 20 bucks for your shit... well, you probably look pretty bad.

I actually don't have any Ed Hardy tees, but I do have two Audigier tees and they look rad. Actually some Ed Hardy stuff does look good. My biggest issue is that it's completely and utterly played out. Also some of the tat designs aren't really that rad, I don't really want to wear a skull driving a rally car with a top hat on or whatever. But some of them are cool. Anyway I like their hats better:

If they were saying they wouldnt pay more than 20 bucks for anything they wear I would agree with you, but they aren't. they are talking about a dam t-shirt, and there are soooo many empire threads there should just be one god dam massive one and make it a sticky, some of the shit looks kick ass and some of it looks shitty, but most companies are the same way. the prices are high, yeah, but it would be awesome if people would stop posting new threads about it, you dont even have to use the dam searchbar to find a thread about this shit, just leave it be.

And I am not hating, I just think it is absurd!  However, I do understand the marketing idea: Oakley did the same thing for years and look how popular they are.  If you market to kids making it look like your product is superior, rare or elite then you can hold that line longer and people will buy TONS of it when the price gets lower.  Look at North Face - their stuff was true, rugged outerwear for years before they sold out and now everyone likes the idea of looking "stylish" in top of the line or more technical gear.  Don't be surprised if Arc'teryx does the same in a few years.

What the hell do they design then, wool coats? Energie, CnC etc aren't strictly shirt designers but they do make and sell a lot of them in actual designs, rather than just pasting a logo or a brand name on the front.

dude we are fucking skiers, not designer clothes wearing motherfuckers. Practically every skier i know is making enough to eat sleep, drink and ski, not buy stupid $42 billboard's to wear around. HMM sounds an awful lot like paying a rediculous amount of money to wear someone else's logo.

eh, where i financially stand as a broke college student, i couldn't bring myself to spend $42 on a tee shirt, even if it was encrusted with diamonds and gold...

i mean, i usually look at opportunity cost. $42 is almost an 1/8th of weed, a lift ticket at most mountains, 2-3 cases of beer depending on location, a good dinner at a good restaurant, etc etc etc, and i couldn't see myself giving up any of those for a tee shirt that i would wear once a week and then probably ruin while doing laundry.

it's pretty lame to judge people by what they're wearing, rather than what kind of person they are...

Yeah that's fair. I mean different people have different priorities, I think skiing is first or 2nd for all of us (ie school has to beat skiing for me)... but if you have things you'd rather spend money on that's legitimate. Personally I get more out of a t shirt than a case of beer, I don't drink that much anymore except at work.

The key to not ruining clothes in laundry is to hang dry them. Dryers ruuuuin clothes.

word well around here the only people who wear Ed Hardy are the twenty-something clubbers who also happen to be the biggest douche bags alive personality wise. Some of the hats are all right but for the most part it looks like they were designed by a tattoo artist from the sixties with no originality

G.A.T. makes some dope stuff though, hard to find however.

You're not actually allowed to wear Ed Hardy here if you want to go clubbing. Like they won't let you in to any of the downtown clubs if you're wearing it. Apparently it's "associated with gang imagery". Pretty damn funny.
