So basically here's the deal, a bunch of people from Toronto's Black community tabled a proposal to create a school that is centred around teaching black history and culture. This is thought as a new way to try and keep black students in school and prevent them from dropping out before finishing high school. I believe the statistic is 40% of black students don't finsh high school in Toronto.
Now here's my take on the issue:
This is blatently racial segregation. The only reason there hasn't been a major uproar in the city is that the idea was put forward by the black community and was voted "yes" by people that were in favour of controversial legislation to provide provincial funding to faith based schools. Basically I think Toronto will see a spike in gang and racially charged violence.
Thoughts?
