I know you sent me a PM but I wanted to respond here.
As far as skiing, MSU beats UM. But, we make do out here. Snowbowl has some fun runs to get you ready for the backcountry out in Lolo. We're right in the middle of Big Sky and Big Mountain in Whitefish so we can head to whatever mountain we want. Plus, we're near Discovery, Lookout, Silver, and Lost Trail.
As far as nightlife, Missoula wins, hands down. Everything from our house parties to our bar scene dominates.
Our game days are a lot more hyped up and have much more attendance than MSU because, well, we win. (No offense cats, but you know its true). When there is no skiing, nothing beats Kegs and Eggs, tailgating and a Griz game.
As far as education, if you want to specifically become an engineer, architect or palentologist, MSU is your school. But for everything else, UM gets the prize. Our Journalism school is top 3, our creative writing department has an exceptionally distinguished faculty, and our B school has been rated in the top for a school of our size and price. Our anthropology department has really great faculty as well. Our school of forestry is fucking legit (we have our own forest for a reason) AND throws one of the best parties in Missoula every year.
We do have a ski team but it is a club team. We have a freeride club but not a team. However, you can take skiing for credit. They throw you on a bus, give you a coach/guide depending on your level and set you loose on Snowbowl. Right now, I'm in a class called Trampoline and Ariel Acrobatics to help out with my park skiing. Seriously, I am earning real credit for skiing and jumping around on a trampoline. You really can't beat that. We also offer classes like table tennis, fly fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, mountainbiking, et cetera. A-mazing.
Let me know what other questions you have. I'm actually a UM Advocate aka the ones who give the tours and know everything about their campus, so seriously if you need any info let me know!
