EP Pro compared to hellbents?

Im getting one of these skis next season and i was just wondering what the difference are between these.
im gunna use this skis for everthing jumping pow park

Why use such a fat rockered ski for park?

They will kill it in pow obviously.  I do know the EP's are a bit softer.

Ep Pros are quite a bit softer. 179 Hellbents are almost the same size. Hellbents have more rocker.

how bout we leave the fucking kid alone about why he wants rockered in park. thats his fucking decision. lets get back to the point of the damn thread.  whats the differences between hellbent and ep pro?

from what ive heard(havent ridden either but know some people who have) the EP's have gotten the vote of most

for an answer to your question, id have to say the ep pros will ride better in the park, the early taper design also helps the ski ride on groomers, but the bents are a bit stiffer witch id say would be a bit nicer on the jumps.. i can carve turns pretty damn well on smooth groomers on my eps where i know the bents wash much more, but still ridable..   now some of my days consist of park n pow, but even on just park days, ill ride the eps (out of my 60ish days so far id  say 57 were on the eps..) THE SKIS ARE JUST WAY TO MUCH FUN... and yes i hit rails with them, though a little cumbersome, they are still so much fun.. i like jumping with them but you have to remember you practically have no tip and tail support, so you have to be pretty centered, and with the ski mounted at recomended (-2) spinning is never a problem...oh, and need i say butter? theres another skier at brighton that rides his bents all the time and he's always cruisin the park too.. so both skies are def ridable..

i know theres haters out there, but i dont give a shit, do what you want and have fun doing it.

I have to agree with half penny on everything thing he said... I ride the EPs, and I've had mine for a few weeks now and agree that they are the funnest skis I've ever owned.  I hit jumps with them and OMG can you butter on these noodles!!  Can't comment on rails because I don't want to kill my edges or base, but I hear it's more stable on fattys. Overall if you lighter (140-170) get the EPs, and heavier go with the bents

its not like the EP pros are gunna be my park specific ski thats not how i ski even when i ski i just go ride what ever im in the mood for and whats the most fun that day and it changes i do relize there not a park ski but i mean why not bring style to the park with some slow spins on big skis? but i am a bit heavy not like all the skinny dudes on here im about 511 200 if that changes anything

i have and its the most fun ever. yeah id rather have parks skis when i am doing big spins on big tables and spinny stuff on rails. but on the days where i just feel like having fun i love having rockered skis in the park, doing nose butters off 20 footers and zero's, and nothing over a 5, and just plaing fucking around is the most fun ever.

You can be stlyie and spin slowly without the fatest most pow specific skis. The only reason EP pros are so fat is too float in soft snow, if you're using a rediculously wide, and relatively heavy ski in a groomed park you're doing nothing but holding back your own skiing, limiting what you can do. Now if you just want to use a rockered ski in the park, getting a pair of reno jibs, or rockering your old park skis is a more more logical option.

if you hit big jumps you are gonna want hellbents over ep pros for sure since ep pros are soooo soft. if you have anthems for park though just rock that and get eps for pow... ?

rockerd skis are so far away from being a trend. since when are pep, andy and eric the only ones allowed to ride rockerd skis? So many companies are coming out with rockerd skis next season for a reason, they are amazing skis, I've skied hellbent all mt. and really enjoyed myself on them, kids really need to stop hating on rockerd skis, if i had to have a one ski quiver it would definitley be a pair of rockerd skis, the only area i could see them holding you back in would be pipe, and i hate pipe so thats not a problem

I am in the same boat as you for next year. I'd prefer to get EPs but I am a bit worried about the size... How do they compare in size and weight to the 179 Hellbents?

I am quite tiny 5'9 and 130...

No, The tapered part of the ski doesn't even hit the snow on hardpack. That doesn't help you at all.

I have hellbents and I can still easily carve on groomers. Seriously, if you have decent technique it's not a problem. Both of them will handle similarly on groomers.

The Taper is supposed to help with turns and butters in deep snow.

they are like the same lenght, k2 measures their pow skis short for some reason. and the ep pro's are a bit lighter. hellbents are pretty damn heavy. plus the softer flex of the ep's would be nice too, i weight 140, and when i skiied them the hellbents are kinda over powering sometimes.

although both of these skis are gonna be super fun, there is no reason to limit yourself to this years rockered skis...

Next year everyone is going to have them, so look out for the new JJ, seth, and quite a few others that may be more up your alley

Trevor, your def right... i took a look down the other day while i was riding and noticed that the only point of contact on the ground is pretty much the length of the binding.. but you're right, with the right technique, it is very easy to carve hard

i said it carved easy, not particularly well..  but for a butter soft ski thats rockered, it carves better than you would expect.. its no RC4... but it can def hold its own

hellbents look fun in the park, and they are, but only on jumps. it is a little too much work on rails

and with your weight ep pros would wash out on every jump you hit, so just go with the hellbents if you are going to be riding them everywhere

but if you land back seat on big jumps you WILL was out pretty bad, they just are not made for that. thta is why hellbents would be the better choice

with rockered skis you really have to change your skiing style. like it forces you to be creative. like if you launch off the side of jumps up to the knuckle and do a nose butter on the knuckle thats way fun on rockered skis, or like hitting smaller jumps, mabye with a step up style and purposly undershooting it so you can butter the knuckle. and with something like hellbents, you cannot be technical on rails, and its much steezier not to, but you can press like crazy so thats just what i did.
the people that talk shit about rockered skis in the park usually dont like them just because they arent willing to change how they ride. like if they like throwing 9's with tweaked out grabs, not only would that look gay on hellbents, but it would be way hard. you just have to be willing to get extremely creative.

Anyone that talks shit on skiing fat skis in the park can suck a dick. I broke my park skis a few days ago so have had to ski my EP's in the park. People yell shit from the lift, but fuck it. It's fun as hell. Last time I checked, that was the reason people ski in the first place. When you can keep up or throw down harder than a lot of the guys on fat skis in the park, then you can talk shit.

have you skied a rockered ski in the park?
well i have once in a while and i guarantee you that they carve just like a normal ski.
they are a bit heavy to spin and stuff on rails but it doesnt matter because you can press so gnarly. And they do wash out on landings if you cant land on your feet but hey they are way more fun then a normal ski so get your facts right before you talk.

Yes I do know what camber does.
But sidecut is what makes a ski carve.(Hellbents have sidecut)
I dont know what reverse camber skis you were riding but were they true reverse camber, or rockered (Hellbent/EP pro)
obviously a rockered ski would carve much better then a true reverse camber ski.
And no the Hellbents dont perform like an 80mm waisted ski on groomers because they are a little sluggish from side to side but if you have legs its not really a problem.
Camber makes the carving more responsive, it doesnt make the ski carve.

can someone who weighs 165-180 tell me how they like their ep's. ive riden hellbents, loved them, probably going to get a pair for next season, but ive hand flexed the ep's and cant understand how anyone over 140 enjoys riding them, the tails felt soo soft, i couldnt imagine landing the slightest bit back seat even in soft snow consider how much hellbents wheelie if you landed a little bit back

I normally ski EP's all over, but I was on Hellbent's all morning. It was like spring today, being super warm and sunny. They are way better than the EP's on the hard stuff. Hands down.

im king of landing back seat (and i weigh 185) and yesterday i blew the fuck up out of my 816 toe piece... just ripped straight out of my ep.. i landed back seat on a small jump throwing a 3 and just boom.. second pair of 816 if killed in 2 months....

wow..that is a nice quiver...i've got the bents and i'm thinking about looking for a park ski too..I have to say, I've ridden both ep pro and bents and i like the bents better for all round play. That being said, I can say that in the soft...they killed it and butters in pow switch is just ridiculously easy and i'm a whistler 5/6 skier..

in the park..get a park ski for rails/boxes...etc...or if you want a compromise...get a MOMENT Reno Rocker...Josh Bibby Pro...they're smaller underfoot and have rocker.

...but you won't go wrong with hellies
