going 60+ on the highway. Moments later they were run over by an 18 wheeler. Make sure your roof racks are secured ns.

I guess this is a bit more common than I thought. I was amazed. After arriving late, and on rental skis, all he could say was "I can't tell you how much this morning sucked."

that happened a pair of my skis a couple years ago. luckily only a couple of spots took any damage and I was lucky there were no cars, but damn 70mph will fuck em up pretty good.

same thing happened to me and three friends coming back from high north years back...all our skis were destroyed by traffic but thankfully we had homeowners insurance that replaced our skis for the value of skis+bindings

I always wonder about the roof racks.
Like, at the very least, your skis (and bindings) are gong to get blasted full of road grime and salt. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. The girl and I drive up to the hill in a tiny Civic. The rear seats flip forward, and we just store the skis inside.
Works pretty good for us.

A week or two ago that happened to me and my friends. My roof rack blew open on the highway and 3 pairs of skis flew off at 75 mph. Luckily, after probably half an hour of some really intense searching and stress, we got all the skis back with a little help from some really nice people who found one of the pairs. None of the skis were actually damaged really at all though, pretty crazy.

Going about 85 on the highway, roof rack comes open, and my cousins public enemies flies off.
Somehow they were fine, and even weirder was that I had bought my brand new trouble makers 3 days before, and they stayed on the rack. Never been so relieved/happy in my entire life

My volvo can put the inner armrest down, and I can put my skis straight inside. I love it.

ya well getting a ski rack is so you don't have to do that soo you don't scratch up the interior or get it all wet and nasty but i got locks for mine so if i remember to lock um it should be good

I'm not positive on the exact details because he's not entirely sure how it happened. He closed them like always and checked the racks too, but about an hour into the trip the back one opened up and the skis flew out.

yea it sucks, this happened to me two weekends ago. we were on 81, which for you non-newyorkers is a large fast highway. so we lost three pairs of skis over a spread of a mile. one pair got run over, but they were good, and my friend had to run in front of a 18 wheeler speeding towards them. another went into a colvert and the last pair were teetering on the edge of a bridge over a river. luckliy all the skis were good, but yea sucks for your friend. deff double check your rack. Â

wow that makes me feel super lucky... last weekend we were cruisin around 45-50 on a windy road and we realized that the rack was open with my friends new lizzys on the end sliding around. when we got out to fix it after a few minutes the top ski was about to slip forward off the rack and that'd let the other 3 pairs on there slip of too. i guess you alwyas gotta double check that stuff...
