WRX Insurance

So I was just curious to all of you with suby impreza's out there. Do you know how much you are paying for insurance right now? I'm 19 with a pretty good record and a good student, so hopefully that will help out. Unfortunately my parents think it will fall under a 'sports car' for insurance, and that could potentially make it too expensive for me to own. Sooo lemme know what you guys pay, thanks.

Ya, it will be a bitch.

It was a lot for my GMC 1500 with good grades too. They don't like teenagers driving.

WRX will have pretty expensive insurance. You will get a fairly decent break if it is a wagon though. I own a wagon in Canada. The base rate for my insurance in BC (21 when I first insured it) differed by around 700 per year - around 3600 for the sedan and 2900 for the wagon. Of course rates will differ province to province and state to state as well as by age and driving record, but those were the base quotes for me.

Ya I guess it just depends if they consider it a 'sport car' or not. I also don't know if I'll be able to find a wagon or sedan.

I did do a free quote online and cause of my good grades and stuff it looks like it 'may' only be $2000 a year. Which isn't terrible. We'll see.

I'm 17, perfect driving record, good student discount, 2000 Pontiac Grand Am (that was wrecked and we fixed up) and it runs me oh.. 1700 a year? Being 19, with a Suby Impreza that is supercharged (unless I'm mistaken) then yeah you're definately looking at ATLEAST 200 a mo. for insurance.

Rates drop when you're 19 or 20 though, something around there, then again when you're 21 and like again when you're 25 I think. So hopefully it won't be quite as bad as that.

My dad who knows alot about cars told me not to buy a sportscar until I was 25 or I'd be paying out the ass for insurance, and a speeding ticket/accident? forget about it. 2,000 a month sounds too good to be true but still thats alot of money for insurance.

i drive a saab 9000, not close to a sports car, but its a turbo hwich significantly boosts teh insurance, and i pay 900 a year im in new york idk about other places

it depends whether your going on you parents insurance or on your own. if on you parents itll run you 1500-2000 a year if your going on your own its gunna be over 3000... depends on the year of car and what not... Im 22 and was looking at a 2005 wrx and insurance was 3500 for pretty crappy coverage. with a high deductable... gets even higher the more you want.

I was just in the market, and was looking at WRXs until I priced the insurance. I'm 23, totally clean record, and was looking at $1300 every six months for full coverage on a 2006. Holy shit! They also wanted $1000 / 6 months for a normal impreza. The turbocharged Forrester that does 0-60 in about 6 seconds was under $700 though. I pay $400 every six months for liability and comprehensive (no collision) on a 1998 jeep cherokee.

I don't think they will consider it a sports car. I could be mistaken, but they will look at the number of cylinders and the number of doors. Both are 4, it won't be too pricey.

I was looking at getting one last year and got scared away by the insurance.  It was going to be around  $2,400 a year, which seemed borderline affordable.  But then I realized that I like to speed, and would quickly not be able to afford the car anymore.  If you can afford it, do it by all means, but keep in mind that you might accidentaly make your insurance go up a bit.

have your parents put you on their car or a different older car, and your mom or dad or someone older goes on the wrx.  i don't have a "sports car" but my name is on a 1990 suzuki swift and im paying $700 a year and im 17.

Maybe the STI. I dunno if they would classify a regular stock WRX as a rally car. But we'll have to see what they say.

I'm paying 1300 every six months on my GTI. I'm 19, hit a deer once, no speeding tickets, blah blah.

I guess you have to pay big sometime because no matter how long you wait your first couple of years alone on insurance will suck... so pay it now, and when you get the normal pricing, it'll be nice for a mortgage payment.

Dude, WRX's are classified as sports cars.  An 18 year old driving a sports car pays out the ass.  I drive a WRX and my insurance is so high I don't even want to think about it.

I did a price quote thing from esurance online. With my accident 3 years ago and the only ticket I've had, it was about $1800 a year. Not too bad, might be affordable. If I'm under my parents insurance it might be cheaper even.

when I was 19 I had a VW GTi and not so great of a driving record (gtis rip) and I (my Dad) was paying about 8k a year.

get a reg impreza. not a wrx. insurance will be higher AND premium gas is no fun for your wallet!

definitely get under your parents if you can cause itll be in their name and then you could just be an "occassional driver" because you are in school... very cheap.. ive got a bmw and i run with geico fully covered for $800/yr. It really comes down to the crash test of the car, color, sedan vs coupe, etc..

So it turns out my parents can get some crazy new program for our insurance. Basically they declare a primary driver for the 'family' and then all cars are under their name, but everyone else in the family can still drive the cars. So getting a WRX wouldn't make our insurance go up at all, in fact this new program will make us save about $1500 a year. It's sooo dope.

So ya, we're saving a bunch of money on our car insurance (by switching to Geico...no not really, but I had to say it) Haha. Anyway, picked this badboy up today:

Haha its not a first car. Actually my third, it was a little more than I wanted to pay for but I have a stable job so the financing shouldn't be that bad.

try and stay on your parents insurance and then just pay them the money you owe them, thatll make it alot cheaper. also alot of agenciesgive you a discount if you have two types of insurance with them, i have renters insurance and car insurance with state farm so my rates are alot lower, renter's insurance is only 10 a month too

my rates on my saab 9-2x aren't that bad (about 600 ever 6 months). But the 9-2x insurance is less than the WRX (even though they're the same car w/ different emblems) because less people crash the 9-2x whereas many young hot shot men crash their WRXs pretty quick.

Hahaaha, I drive a 04 Saab 9-3

2500ish a year, I'm 18, and I haven't been in ANY accident and haven't gotten pulled over. I just want to say thanks to my turbo which forces me to pay 42 dollars a week..



Oh, and I live in Massachusetts. Car insurance here sucks..

dont put one  on unless your gonna mod your engine to similar as the sti,  and ^^ mine is way cheaper cause mines a 97 i wanna get a 9-3 viggen they are the sickest saabs

when i was looking to buy one, the comprehensive insurance policy was going to cost me AU$9500 per year. And I was 23 with a flawless driving record at the time. Thats about US$8200. Fucking ridiculous.

I guess its the price to pay when the car can outrun police cars.

Ya haha. Well, for our insurance policy it isn't going to cost me any more for my '95 honda accord or my '02 subaru impreza WRZ...go figure. I guess thats a good benefit of having a small local insurance agent.
