the fx-51 is like a shitload better... unfurtunetely there aren't any real great motherboards or even chipsets out there for it so I'm gonna wait till like christmas...

intel sucks serious dick, p4 was riddled with problems, and it focuses only on upgrading its frequency, sadly people would rather have a 2.2 ghz intel 4, than the amd 1.7 ghz, which was proven faster AND cheaper.

AMD is god when it comes to cpus, but you fuckers don't buy their shit and so they have no money! I just found this out, but AMD has actually been developing all of this shit with hardly any money to back their research teams and developers. Think about what they could do if they had money to hire even more research teams and stuff *drool*

But the THG benchmarks were kinda sketchy so I'm still gonna hold out till nvidea or VIA some out with a decent chipset and stuff

I like apple and all and I have one, but except for video it is incredibly slow compared to my pc. and even now graphics and video editing are getting faster and faster on my pc so I'm just gonna sell my g5, anybody want it? I think I'll put it on ebay... haha

First, its Athlon.

Second, FX right now requires registered/EEC DDR, Athlon 64 doesnt. But FX is also Dual Channel which current A64 isnt. When they release 'San Diego' chipset, thats when the FX will no longer require registered memory, but that will also be a new socket, which means a new motherboard.

Anyways, they are fast as hell, and will only get faster with support from MS with 64bit WindowsXP and when programs start coming out that will take advantage of 64bit processing.

Intel also announced their new chip, the Pentium 4 EE(Extreme Edition) which is basically just a higher clocked Xeon chip with an 800mhz fsb which features 2mb of L3 cache.

are you serious? p4 owns right now. 800 fsb is fucking shit up right now... the p4 3.2EE they released (xeon in disguise) beats the new FX 64 bit chip. 32 bit processor beating a 64 bit one...... now i realize the 64 bit chips dont have optimized chipsets or software yet so well just have to see.

BUT p4 is r0x.

a buh what the xeon is a 64 bit chip true pc people know that amd is the shit and deserves all the credit because with out them we would still be running 200 mhz computers cause intel wouldnt develop anything new. and in about 2 months decent motherboards will come out. 800mhz frontside bus is a load of bull shit the real money is with dual ddr like on a couple asus boards now that is what will make the puter faster throw in a good raid system for ide or wait for serial ata to get more standardized and come down in price. if you wanna talk hardware you better know what the fuck you are talking about!

I'm not to sure on this cause I haven't really ever come accross it in benchmarking or anything, but doesn't the fact that the 2.0 ghz AMD beats the 3+ ghz intel make the amd platform more efficient? And is it possible for AMD to make the new cpus quad pumped? then they two could get a 800 mhz fsb...

Yes, you should know what youre talking about but you obviously dont. Every motherboard that has a 875 or 865 chipset, and the majority of nForce2 boards all have Dual Channel RAM, not just 'a few Asus Boards' And 800 FSB is no joke. Go and look at benchmarks and tell me that its a joke.

And the Xeon is not 64 bit. Intel doesnt have a true 64bit chip right now, They have Itanium which emulates 64bit, but isnt actually a true 64 bit chip.

So, if you want to talk hardware, you better know what youre talking about...

And a 2ghz(2400+ to a 2600+ PR Rating) AMD chip will not beat a 3ghz+ P4 in many benchmarks. Sure AMD could find some random benchmark that it will beat it in, but nothing major. But AMD is definately more efficient than current P4's. But Intels PentiumM chips(Centrino), which are basically just super P3's, are pretty damn efficient and probaly are just as efficeint as AMD chips, if not more.

of coarse your gonna need a new board, its a whole new processor. all together if u were upgrading your comp to 64 bit it would cost around $8 or $900. intel does have a 64 bit processor, that clocks at 3.5 ghz. ill get a link that compares the two.

I think they do have a processor that they classify as 64 bit but i think it just uses a sort of hyper-threading thing to emulate 64 bits. I think I read somewhere that in actuallity it runs at 48 bits and the other 16 are somehow generated in the l2 cache or it is reserved for the l2 cache calcs or something.

Except that is probably wrong so don't believe it unless somebody else confirms it

^yeah, you are prolly right, but i think its the l3 cache... but it does a lot better in benchmarks, and at the moment, the whole setup of the intel over the amd is only $50 more, beacause of an integrated controller. oh and i made a mistake, idk where i got 700 for the setup. what i was lookn to say was if u were to make a new computer, with 460 watt case, 2 80 gig hard drives, and everything else (what they used in the tests for the link i posted) price would be around $2600 to $2700. but thats for a spankn new, toppest of the line puter.
