Thinking of getting SFB's good or bad idea

I ski in Pennsylvania on a hill with a whopping 600ft vert drop, and am really liking the Sir Francis bacon. I am currently working on a good deal for a pair with salomon z12ti's, I am 6 foot 225lbs and am mostly in the park like 65/35 we don't get much snow here, but blow enough snow to consider the skis. does it just seem ridiculous to get these skis? Yes i do rails and yes i like park. I just switched back to skiing this season after 12+ years of snowboarding so bare with me i'm kinda new. Also thinking of selling these bindings (if i got these skis) and replacing them with look p12 "race blue" bindings, any opinions?

they'd be ok for you but id look more into the anthems

i ski mine all mountain and i live out west on a hill with 2200 and they are dope everywhere. 

they sound more what you would want cause they arent as big

i would say that the bacons would be a little bit overkill for your skiing, if you like Line, look at the Chronics and the Blends both a solid park ski for a bigger guy

sorry copied and pasted from my TGR thread, oops. Well elizabeths are out, they are only 172's. but what are they like in just regular conditions? I hear about pow and groomers, but what else?

well Pollard designed and uses them for his park ski, so they seem pretty solid in there, pretty playful witha soft flex and begin as short as it is

see that's what i'm talkin bout, you see in the you tube videos (of the bacon overview from pollard) him doing all these hits and rails, why is it just seen as a pow ski, and pow jib ski? confuses the hell out of me

i'm still not sure why fatter skis scare ppl in the park. i would think it would be an advantage

if I spend most of my time riding on 2 feet of hard pack ice, being a minnesotan, I don't know why I would want 100+wide skis that are only going to prove harder to maneuver in those conditions.

Agreed all the way.

I wouldn't get Bacons, I have them and they are decent on hardpack but I always ski my Anthems rather than my Bacons if I'm on hardpack or park. 
Anthems are super fun, could get Chronics as Anthems are quie Flexy.  Or some Volkls, they are stiffer and might better suit you because of your weight.

pollard designed the Lizzy to be his park ski, which is 110 underfoot. The SFB is only 5mm wider and 10 cm longer. With your height and weight you would do fine with the SFB if you wanted a nice soft ski that will give you stability, but might want to consider a different ski if you are worried about swing weight

^^- in reply to.....  everywhere i read ppl say the flex on SFB is more than the Lizzy's as the start to break in.  so  wats 5mm more gonna do on width, honestly.

would a wider ski give you more stability?  Cuz that's what i'm feelin it would help with, not that i'm falling every 2 seconds, but I keep thinkn that width would be helpful.

seems like a relativly simple decision to me.  im not line expert but og seems like he's diggen a little wider ski and has nothing wrong w/ them and if he's got a good deal w/ them why not go for it. its all about the personal preferance. if he wants the fatter ski and doesnt mind the width on hardpack, why not?

The SFB is solidly stiffer than the lizzy. At your height and weight the lizzy is going to feel like a noodle.

Also, because you were asking why people see the Lizzy as a powder or powder jib ski, it is because of marketing. Pollard uses it as a park ski, but the first year they made it, they made no mention of it being park oriented, probably because they didn't think they could sell something that big as a park ski. Now, a couple years later as skis have gotten wider, the Line website makes more mention of it being a park ski, but most people still consider it too wide.

I know people talk about width giving you "stability" and all, but think about it, are you ever in danger of falling over sideways? Remember a few years ago when you had 60 waist skis? Were you always falling over and feeling "unstable?" Probably not.
In my opinion, being a fellow PA skier, the park is always icy and having better edge control on ice serves me better in the park than width does.
Just to compare though, I've got Blends and have been happy with them in the park, and it really all comes down to preference: the only person who can tell you that a ski is too wide for you is you. Is there any way you can demo them before purchasing?

wats the point of making this thread asking for advice when u have ur mind pretty much set on them anyways? Everyone is saying that its overkill and honestly....a pretty dumb idea. If ur looking for people to basically agree with u and make urself feel that its a good idea to buy em then ur diggin urself a hole. If u want them that bad then buy em but if u want an honest suggestions like everyone else had already said, dumb idea.

nah, i've been checkin bout demoing, but not many ppl even sell line out here for one, but have been tempted to ask some ppl to test out their wide ski, but that's kinda weird to ask someone that randomly, hahaha.  BUt i have been snowboarding for 10+ maybe 12 years (not that, that has anything to do with wide skis, just giving an assumption that i didn't just start riding mountains for the first time this year.... just on skiis i'm new) and can grasp the idea of width and turning with width.  But with the sidecut on the bacons, it would seem that being able to turn quick on these wouldn't be an issue as said from the other PA park skier

oh and about the "remember when ....60mm" i just started this year and i'm on atomic triplets from 2006 i think which are pretty skinny (still shaped of course) and I don't really feel that stable on them, but maybe that's just normal, i used to rollerblade (aggresive inline, watever) and never felt so unstable before on a rail, but i still pull some clean slides and am crouched down pretty well.

The issue is not turning radius or being able to throw them into a turn quickly. The issue at hand here is their grip on hard or icy snow. As a fellow PA skier take it from me, width can actually limit you on icy days. I like my skis wider than usual, even for hardpack and groomers, but getting them to hold an edge is tough on icy days. I was at Liberty on wednesday and was yearning for my old 60 waist skis that long ago went on to the next life in a thrift shop. It actually limited what I wanted to do for the day. It wasn't that I couldn't do all the runs, it was that some of my favorite steep runs weren't fun anymore when every moment was a struggle to keep an edge and stop my skis from washing out from under me.
So, if you need Bacons, then get them, and I'm sure you will adapt your style to make them work for you, but do take a moment to listen to the advice people are giving you: the width is going to cost you extra and it really isn't going to help you in any way, in fact, you may not like the way they behave on hard snow. So, you don't have to justify your decision to anyone here, but you have to be able to answer this question for yourself: how will Bacons help you compared to something like the Anthem or Chronic in PA?

width don't help too much on rails in my opinion, because your skis slipping out from under you is from where you center your weight, not the ski contact with the rail. For example, if your feet are sliding out from under you and you are falling back (uphill) on rails, it is because your weight is too far back and having wider skis will not actually save you, you'll still fall.

no self justification here (at least not to prove to you guys on my decision), just trying to provoke info from ppl.  I'm lookin into it more and more, and not tryin to step on toes.  I've rode alot this season, and have only experienced one icy day, which was wednesday same as sharko but at roundtop.  Worst day ever, and i would agree that, that would be a day i would dread havin them, but one day out of 10+ days seems alright to me.  But i have been looking into chronics now too, so don't think that i'm just set on bacons, like i said just trying to provoke useful info from ppl, christ!
