Sugarbush Love!

i think its a decent mountain that is trying to get better in the park, and ive never had a bad encounter with management or employees either. but they did build clay brook, which is an affront to the dignity of mankind

Thank you for the love people.  Although we can not be all things to all people we work very hard to make sure that the Sugarbush experience is one to remember.  We have a great set of mountains to play on and I am glad to see that many out there still love and appreciate Sugarbush for what it is. 
The people and the vibe are very unique in today's resort world and we love what we do.  Rock on and think snow!

I don't agree with this.  If anything, I would say we have a tendecy to under forecast the snow fall.  You are entitled to your opinion, but as an employee and someone who is a part of the business I can honestly say that everything we do is straight and proper.  
Whatever though, Sugarbush still rocks! 

Sugarbush is sweet, they have alot of really untouched backcountry because people just dont know its there. and the park isnt half bad! If only stowe was run by the people at sugarbush...now theres a customer friendly mountain!

I've always had fun riding at Sugarbush. I rarely ride park so I don't really mind, but they have a good mix of terrain.

Question - what's your policy on skiing non-marked off trail tree stashes.  Is that cool like it is at Jay and Smuggs? 

Peace and my props go out since u got shat on in that last thread.  I mean, I doubt any of the "shating" was legit stuff but still, angry teenage skiers hating in cyberspace is stupid and doesn't promote positive vibes.  This is skiing for God's sakes, not politics.  Feel the love ya'll.

Our policy is simple.....as long as you are on the property of the resort you can go ANYWHERE. We don't have out-of-bounds unless you leave the property and with 4,000 acres (including the Slide Brook basin) there are tons of woods to hit up. I am not sure how the woods are right now since I have been on the road all week. If you do go off-piste just be careful.
We have 2 mountains (Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen) and the space between them is the Slide Brook basin. The terrain parks are bigger are Mt. Ellen and the there is a trail that has a dedicated lift for the main hits.
We have marked woods areas on the trail maps, but you can always ask employees about where the stashes are. Have fun out there and enjoy exploring Sugarbush.

I deal with the forums and peoples responses a lot so I am not too worried. Most of the people on these forums are young and have no idea how much effort goes into keeping the resort open and running. You are right, we are skiers and shouldn't be hating so much!

word, ive always thought that this is one of the best policies a ski mountain has ever adopted, its been talked about in a couple of magazines too. and ive always thought that the sugarbush glens are some of the greatest ive ever skiied

what exactly is clay brook and why are people complaining about it? I haven't been to the bush in a couple years but i love it there

clay brook is a large and expensive hotel/condo complex that was built this year right at the base of lincoln peak. its designed to look kinda like a giant barn. i dislike it because i think it looks stupid and is a magnet for gapers and rich people.

but, you gotta make money. im not gonna stop going to sugarbush just cause its there.

Clay Brook is a fractional ownership property that we can also use as a hotel. It is a necessary piece of property like any resort has to add more beds but also some more luxury to the resort. It is designed to capture VT aspects (like barns) so it is complete with a silo. There are only 61 units so it's not over the top.
In order for us to continue to operate the resort we need to have capital. If you look at any other major resort, we all have real estate development. Plus, it's the first new residences built around the base in 25 years and the first major capital project at Sugarbush (of it's type) in about 40. It was about time.
It hasn't changed the feel of Sugarbush nor our attitude.......

One more question Mr. Sugarbush Man.

So this slide brook basin - if I'm a pretty good glade skier who doesn't get freaked out in the woods is this thing entirely explorable?  Like, does it have shitty terrain traps and drainage etc. or is it navigable? (Is that a word?)  It's like a bowl right?  Does it run out to the resort or like a cat track?

it runs out onto a road where you get picked up by a (free?) bus, that can take you to Mt. Ellen, Mad River Glen, Lincoln peak, and other area destinations

I wouldn't go in alone just in case because it is a natural wilderness area. If you are unfamiliar with the area I would recommend dropping in off of the Lincoln Peak side (also called South Mountain). It's always a good idea to go into the woods with someone to be safe.
Slide Brook basically runs down into a stream run out so it's not too hard to navigate.
When you drop down the basin you eventually end up at the bottom of the basin on a road called German Flats Rd. Shuttles regularly run by (because this road runs between both mountains) so you get a FREE ride back to the base areas. It is pretty efficient so you don't stand around for a long time.
You can always ask some of our Outback Guides (who wear orange jackets with the words Outback Guide on them).
It was dumping today so the snow should be ok in the woods for you but it never hurts to make sure when you are there.

dude, i totally agree. sugarbush is getting better every year. the staff there are so friendly, the new base lodge, claybrook, and timvers, are beautiful, although i do ski mostly at mt. ellen. the woods are pretty good on powder days. on a good day, exterminator woods are sickkk. then there are always those hidden treasures like, Hole in the Wall. not too many people know about that, but it is the sickest skiing when the conditions are good. the slide brook basin i have heard is soooo nice, but you need a ton of snow, and it ends at german flats where the 'mad bus' can bring you to either mountain, and they go by like every 20 min or so. very reliable, no matter the weather. the snow sherpas help you carry your stuff from your car to your lodge, not many resorts do that. the park is getting better every year,they bought tons of new shit this year, and two days ago they change the park around, i heard its pretty nice, i havent been over there because i have been at south. the lines are never too bad, 5 min tops, on the busy days, and its not unlikely to see one of the owners, Adam, out there lending a helping hand with the crowds. the other owner, Win, is extreamly wealthy, and just one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. he loves the sport and it shows in teh way he runs the resort. always smiling, always optimistic. sugarbush is doing SICK this year, in january, they had a 75% increase in ticket sales over last year, as of jan 1st, they had 162 inches of snow, when the average is 256. Go bush! also in a couple weeks, the Today Show is going to be broad casted live from sugarbush, quite the honor, all the big people will be there. i have skied at stowe, snow bowl, jay, burke, mad river, and bolton, and i have to say, the staff is the friendliest at sugarbush. Keep up the good work guys!

i skiied the slide brook yesterday. fucking epic. there was so much powder, my friends and i got so many fresh tracks. the other day my friends did hole in the wall, and said they had powder up to their waists. and its stillllll snowing. epiccccc.

3 feet of fresh in the last week has made for some ideal conditions. The flow of the parks have been changed and the main park on Reimergasse has had a lot of attention. The woods are great and we are rocking and rolling so come out and get it while it's fresh!

yeah my friends and  were on Reimergasse all day beacuas the rest of the moutain hurt to ski because of the ice balls fallin. the park was good, the ice made us go fast but the ground was soft....sooo nice
