well the general public (not us) want to see a circus in aspen, and rails are misunderstood by the public.. big jumps = big crowd.. its all about money. i think jon is gonna kill it, but the field is stacked with riders who have good stunts in the air..

I'm glad there aren't that many rails..rails suck.  I wouldn't mind seeing some creatine stuff on the course though like a big wallride, QP, spine/hip or some setup like the candide invitational last year.   If they did include more rails it should be some crazy setup like a huge gap to rail or rail to rail gap/

they had rails everywhere in the past and nobody was hiting them so they madeboxes and got big jumps cause teh crowd like that better.

i have 2 comments to make on this issue,

1. there should definatly be a  gap to down rail or box so there can be some crazy 610s on and such which are really tech tricks.

2. I feel like Jon has way too much influence in this course for  being one of the athletes competing. I know he is one of the best jump builders in the world la de da de do, but doesn't this give him a significant advantage to make the jumps perfect for throwing his doubles?

they did that last year, people gapping the flat down box. 630s were done.

and jon doesnt have as much influence as youd think, and even if he did that's awesome. sure his jumps would be perfect for doubles, but its also perfect for any other trick you want to throw. jon builds perfect jumps, thats all.

Yeah there is already a big air comp and a superpipe comp thats alone plenty of aerials for one event. The slopestyle should be slightly jib-centered rather than 80% airs as it is.

With this years course i predict many guys who have their jibs and jumps in good balance are gonna lose to peeps who are all jumps like*cough*Jon*cough*.

I kinda like it tho that they've shunned nearly all the fancy ornamental shaping BS that they've had in every WXG so far. This years course is down to the point. I just wonder if the speeds are adequate if the weather turns bad? That's also been a problem in the past two X-Games, and as we know the jumps this year are BIG...

yes, some people do watch for rails. the general public (its been said before in this thread) doesnt rail care too much for rails. But people who really know freestyle skiing, like many people on NS, love to see something sick thrown on a rail.  so if no one "truely watch[es] for the rails" then why would there be so many people complaining about the lack of rails?

another reason they dont put rails in is because 50% of the pros suck at them, if they had half rails half jumps and wallsich or ahmet got in, they'd have like a 50% better chance of pwning noobs

4 out of 6 elements is 66 percent....... and jumps SHOULD be 66 percent of a slopestyle course....

as for jon all the athletes loved how he built the joi jump.. and the only people that are complaining about jon helping with the jumps are YOU guys.....

It does bother me that the slope course is so heavily jumps with so few jibs, but it's a big money event, which means the network decides what people want to see most.

The crowds wont lose their interests in the WXG just because they add a little jibbing to their slopestyle. Actually the X-Games have a lot of authority when it comes to public attitude towards freestyle sports. If something new and rad gets hyped at the X-Games, it usually becomes interesting. And rails arent even new and rad. Skateboarders have been doing them for decades and everyone is still interested.

And like 90% of the tricks that guys do in rail comps have airtime involved anyway.

Consider that the rails are way up the slope and the jumps take up most of the exposure.

jon gets an unfair edvantage because he can tell the cat drivers to build the jump just the way he likes it so then he can pull  the trick he wants to. and the jib part of x games is a job they should have it like a real park with a rail yard and some urbans as well as a stair case like last year

 Like most said a slope should be rails( box and rail) and jump, 1/2 , 1/2 and no hip or quarter since there is a halfpipe and a big air .Add to that many  ski resort banish jumps so rails could be a big part of future.
Mostly, in the  X-course i'm not sure there will be lots of tricks going out of the up box except spinning to win.
I agree that this course is a big air in a row and wont represent the efforts a lots are making on the rails. It may be ok for the X but for teh Aspen open it's the same course???
They always have problem to mix the rails and jumps.It's a speed matter.

so what? maybe it makes a course actuallly legit instead of fucking people doing doubles, how can you call it fair for 4 jumps to be in a row so people who suck at rails have an advantage. last time i checked we were trying to make skiing cool?

Or, rails can be the cure. Rails need less speed.

Im not bitter for any athletes who might be losing out because of course design. Jibbing has evolved through the past year at the same pace as jumps and Id like to see both equally.

ok first of all, it's a jump. just cuz it's good for chicken flips doesn't mean it's bad for other tricks. and second, at joi jon has always been making pretty much the most desirable jump to hit every year... so I seriously doubt that the other competitors mind that they are being subjected to jon's top notch jump building skills. as for rails... it seems most pros suck at rails, i think there should be more rails but I really dont care either because if there were it wouldn't be fun to watch. even the pros who are decent at rails dont usually risk getting very technical because they cant risk falling and compromising their jumps.

The whole point of xgames is to showcase the best athletes our sport has to offer to the public.  This should include the best, well rounded riders which means there should be some rails.  Rails add a whole new element to the course and bring in a lot more required skill.  There should be at least one flat down or down rail.
