If there's something awesome in or near your hometown that you think makes it better than others, post a picture of it here. Coolest place, landmark, thing, etc. wins. Go!
Well, heres our old Psychiatric Hospital from like 1924 and Jail from 1911 that was supposed to replace Sing Sing. that is a hell of lot creepier then this picture looks. theres about 20 more buildings to this place and not just this one. Its supposed to be haunted and a bunch of windows are bricked up. Some History on it: Everything stopped after it was all made because the governer stopped for some reason.
As the buildings laid abandon the State came up with two alternate plans for the Wingdale Prison; keep it as a prison for "the execution of the death penalty and for the detention of all those who have been sentenced to life in prison" or "turn it into a hospital for the agrarian insane". On December 25th 1923 Governor Alfred E. Smith announced the prison site would in fact become a hospital "to keep high-grade, harmless lunatics who are physically rugged at Wingdale and work them on farms there.":
Main Building ALL the way in the back
Apparently under all the bulidings there are tunnels that connect them so they could transport patients from one building to another without going outside. Some patients got locked in there or something and they still roam around. So yeah, I live next to a haunted abandoned insane asylum. And I play around it all the time.
And then theres this place a few miles away in Millbrook. Also haunted:
Its an old womans only college and a picture taken there actually won Sci-Fi channel's Ghost Picture contest.
Heres a small picture of it. Apparently that thing in the top right corner is a person peering out the window.
there is a place just like that not too far away from you in middletown, ny. and old physicatric place with bars on the windows and everything and its abandoned. crazy shit
Pretty cool, but I much say I do prefer to have oxygen in my air.
Boulder, CO, not sure it's the best but I enjoy the skiing and the lack of fat people.
