Barker is pretty damn good, I don't know why people give him a hard time. That video nowhere near did him justice though, I've seen him play for more complex stuff. Tight though.
he's good, but go listen to some of dave weckl's stuff, and you'll be blown away by the complexity of his beats. There not just super fast punk rythms...
his drum solo^ does him a lot more justice than that video. while he is definitely a great drummer, i think people tend to give him more praise than he deserves. he's plays great and sure has a presence on stage, but when it comes right down to it, there are more rhythmically complex and more flexible drummers that can play extremely well all over the musical scope. i think i posted something like this in another thread about this but it's amazing how carter beauford plays. even when stuck as the rhythm section of a song as opposed to a wide open solo, he gets technical and just grooves out, and keeps the song interesting that way.
it's just great how he keeps it moving and different by throwing all sort of rhythms and such in to just keeping the beat. around 2:00 is just downright impressive. but don't give me shit, i didn't talk any trash about barker, just said that i appreciate beauford more.
i also want to throw this in for kicks because i LOVE buddy rich. one of the best jazz drummers to ever live. starting at 2:50 is just unbelievable, but don't do yourself the injustice of watching only that if nothing at all.
anyone know antonio sanchez? he's absolutely perfect in nearly every way. i've seen him play with pat metheny twice and he never disappoints. here's him absolutely knocking nearly ever drummer on the planet on their asses. solo starts at about 1:00, and to see him really kill it, watch between 4:00 and 5:00
