DSLR Camera ideas needed...

Yo guys what's up. i was wondering if you all could give me some ideas on a descent Digital SLR camera. I have been shooting with my '72 Pentax 35mm for the last couple years, which i love, but i am looking for a little more versatility.
With this DSLR i want to shoot this ski season and have it be my primary camera, in addition...i'm taking a summer long road trip all over the west and PNW, so i'll be using it then. I was hoping to spend between $400-600.
Thanks in advance.

nikon d40 or canon rebel xt with 18-55 kit lens, and then also buy a 55-200 or something similar

IMO Nikon makes superior quality products and lenses, however the results are usually the same from both lower end Canon and Nikon Dslrs. but on the plus side Canon offers alot more lenses at better prices, and the high end canon lenses and bodies are definatly better

dont buy either of those. buy for each brand in this order
Canon: in your price range a 20D (wich i have super sick cam) or a 10D wich is like what 4 years old and still outperfroms the XT and XTI
Nikon: d70 d50 or if you have enough dough D80
personally i think canons are better cameras but its all personal preference but PLEASE dont buy a d40

i have a d40 that i got for $400 last year and love it. If you find one for the right price, it is by far the best beginner DSLR. I have an 18-55 and a 55-200mm lens and although the limited selection of lenses are it's only downside, what is your reasoning for not liking it?

A 10D or D70 is the way to go, then get one good lens not two shitty ones.
All times are Eastern (-5)
