MiniDV Camcorder - need help!!!

So i have a JVC GR-D770 camcorder, and i have a bunch of sick shots, but when i go to put them on my computer to make an edit, i cannot for the life of me figure out how to put the video onto the computer.

So, anyone else who has miniDV camcorders, HOW  DO YOU TRANSFER THE VIDEO TO YOUR COMPUTER?!?!

im using Movie Maker - the Capture Video function, but its not detecting that the camcorder is plugged in

first try rewinding the tape a little, then if that doesnt work, try going to download.com to download a diffferent video capturer

is it required to have firewire to transfer? because i have been using usb 2.0 in my attempts, could that be the problem?

you can use a usb, but you should check to see if the usb cord works with another electronic. if there is a kink in your usb cord, it might need to be replaced. one time my camera wasn't detected on my computer because the usb  cabble was broken.

the camera is definately detected because the "safely remove hardware" thing comes up, but it doesnt come up under f,g,h,or i drives in explore nor anywhere else

no, USB doesn't work, you need firewire. i tried that too and it didn't show up with USB

not 100% sure but if nothin else works, just get a firewire...when i was using a sony handycam my usb cables did the same thing, then i bought a firewire and it was fine ..(ive also heard that firewire has a better quality transfer)

cheap firewire cards, and on the card there is a port for it

but you don't need one for wmm. you could just have a bad usb cord

its a jvc, and the usb will not work with the "capture video" function. and the usb is a brand new one right out of the camcorder box, which is for the transfer from the memory card, not the tape

yeah i have that camera, its pretty dope.
go on new egg
get a firewire cable if you have a firewire port. if you dont, get a firewire drive and a firewire cable

plug that in to the port, and the cam. Play, and capture with whatever program your using. I suggest vegas, its jawsome.

If the usb isn't working then just buy a firewire card, they you can get it for about 20 bucks on new egg, and they are really easy to instal
