sry ino i asked a similar question not too long ago, but i need this answer quick so i can order out for some hdpe sooooooo.....how thick should my topsheet be so that i can countersink screws into it, thanks
ok well i don't have any actual experience but i'm gonna say from a construction point of view that you would want to find the depth of the head of the screw and make the hdpe about 3x that depth, maybe four times? And that would be an absolute minimum. I'm not sure what a safe average would be, but thicker than to make it a little stronger.
1/4 in. DO NOT go with 1/8. you might be able to get away with 3/16. Even my hdpe topsheet cracked around where the screws were. (Pretty pissed. built it during the summer, it held up to abuse, looked at it yesterday to hit it and the topsheet was cracked near each screw, prob cause of contraction/expansion due to temp. differences). I would go with 1/4 or more. But it will cost you a lot.
I would consider using a few pvc pipes. Like 12 1/2 in pipes for a 6 in wide box. It would cost you about $15 tops. They may break but they are cheap and easy to replace.
