baker, duh. So much more snow, less crowds, and the backcountry has about the same amount of terrain, if not more medium-sized cliff hucks. at baker, lift passes are way cheaper, but it's pretty far away from anything but bellingham which is its only downfall.
Ok, the people up above are lying the movies were shot at baker, but there are three important factors that you need to realize.
1: Those conditions only happen around 1/4 of the time, when they do happen baker can be really good, but for most of the time it just rains here.
2: Those shots were from last year, Baker is fucking crowded this year. Everyone and their mom is up here all the time now, that includes the weekdays, There are bus loads of little kids that are really good at going where they should not and scraping shit down to ice, up there almost every other day.
3: Those shots were not shot in bounds. To access the BC you need to have a beacon, shovel, probe, partner and knowledge. If you don't have those things and try and access the BC your pass will get pulled and you might even be expelled from the mountain for good. Also the BC is really unstable right now. We have been having a trend where it snows alot then warms up then snows then warms up. This is making it very unstable right now. Skiing the BC right now is a very good way to end up 6 ft under. Even if you know what your doing.
Aka: If you can't ski the BC (which you can't) and/or don't know secret stashes (which you don't) Baker sucks balls.
Crystal has much more terrain open for skiing right now.
But just so you know the crowds are worse at both baker and crystal then stevens.
but like i said before, go to crystal. i have a seasons pass at baker, and i still go elsewhere cuz it always sucks. baker never gets pow, all the snow, if there is any, is all man made poop. stay away from baker, never ever go. save yourself the money and take it somewhere worthwhile
its called.....um....shit......it used to rock, but lately global warming fucked up baker. and because of the climate change, i havent had time to change my signature. i was fighting global warming with my own 2 hands, and baker ice/rock balls. because really, we all know there is no snow there.
ps, ill change my sig. since i had a good fight with global warming today (ill treat myself), its tought work
you wasted ten seconds of my life and probably confused a few other people. Specify crystal mountain Washington. It's in washington right? i thought you were talking about crystal mountain michigan
But then again, considering how every human knows every other human on the planet through only SIX degrees of seperation. So if somebody initiates a hate to those hundred people, thats potentially another 2-3 degrees that could be discouraged.
white pass FTW!!!! haha. i think its funny how no1 likes baker but they, as of today, have the highest annual snowfall ever recorded in US- 1,140 inches. beat that.
Actually, I think a lot of the hype from the newschool community (Movies/NS/Magazines) have been catering to it a shit-ton last year, and we are receiving the effects of it now. No I don't think it'd be a bad thing to have a lot of NS'ers at a mountain, but I do think that hyping it up even further on NS isn't going to help solve the problem.
Again, I shouldn't be glad of the crowds, because Baker made money in the previous years when it wasn't nearly as crowded as it is now. I've talked to a lot of the management (Gywn/Duncan Howat, the foodies--->Sam) and they say they like the extra business, but they are actually making less profit because of the unanticipated amount of employees they had to hire without previous notice.
Baker has no room to expand (National Forest surrounds it), so they really can't do much.
oh and just to add another fact in bakers favor- the mountain has the most snowfall recorded in a month- 304 inches. thats like 25 feet or so! in a month... (sorry about the bold couldn't fix it)
