Science vs Religion Statement I Want to Make

Science has come a long was disproving religion, but I would like to say this.


Until science can come up with a half decent theory of how the world was created, I'm going to stick to religion. Don't give me some big bang theory garbage. That theory sounds like somebody was high and decided to write that the universe was created from a big bang of NOTHING, and then bam now all of a sudden we have planets.

neither one is going to disprove the other anytime soon. to me, both are hard to believe. where did the energy from the big bang come from? and who created god? stuff like that will never be answered. and it probably won't be when we die either...

you have to keep in mind that it is still a theory that, as of yet, cannot really be proven or disproved. there is evidence in support of it, which is why it is a pretty accepted idea, and if you read up on it it does make sense. (i.e. all cosmic bodies are expanding outward as if from a common explosion). it's the best we've got so far, and it doesn't answer all the questions, but a lot of work has been put into creating a decent explanation for the start of the universe.

you could take my approach by sort of merging religion and science so that you aren't forced to ignore theories with a substantial amount of evidence backing it, like evolution for example. while at the same time you can practice your faith without feeling threatened by science. my belief is that God is responsible for scientific phenomena, such as the big bang. for instance, the seven days that it took God to create the Earth can be translated as the several million years it actually took for Earth to form. the creation of the plants and animals God put on this planet were from the natural selection God allowed to happen. does that make sense? just my personal belief, it works for me.

exactly, and thats a point im trying to make. it doesnt matter who created the world, the only thing that matters is what will happen to us when we die, where do we go? you can debate all you want about who created the world and people are just gonna keep saying well god created blah blah blah, on top of whatever science theory.

ok so what if god does exist, how do we even know if he's intelligent? for all we know, "God" could of created us by mistake, or doesn't even know that we exist. that idea is just as probable as people saying God will slay our asses when we die.

The big bang theory was proposed by a catholic priest. I think that some higher power had to at least set everything in motion. It is a little bit hard to explain at this point in time why the universe bothers to exist.

why is everyone saying you owned him. The theory you are supporting literally is Nothing went Bam into a universe. I you saw a massive building, cake, city, etc would you think that thin air, or actually not even air exploded to make them? no. yet one day they aren't there a month later they are. depends on the man power.

here is a super simple analogy that has flaws in it but its still paints a good picture...

would everyone on NS agree that your body, or most  living things is more intricate than a car?..... the obvious answer is YES

now if a car plant just spontaneously exploded, would you expect a hummer to come rolling out?.... NO 

and further more if there is nothing in the universe, what exploded?




i respect everyones separate opinions, but it comes down to faith on both sides...

my dad is a pastor, and he likes to say, regarding evoltion and religion, that he doesn't see them as being mutually exclusive. which is to say, it doesn't have to be a one-or-the-other situation. i suppose i feel the same way about the beginning of our universe. i mean, sure, maybe there was a huge explosion of dense matter which spread out and created the universe over billions of years. science seems to indicate that all of the matter in the known universe came from a central location and is still moving outwards. but maybe that was just god's method of creating all this shit. my only problem with a strictly scientific take on creation is where the hell did that primordial blob COME FROM before it blew itself to smithereens.

according to the big bang, a super dense cluster of matter and energy. what i don't understand is where that matter came from, but i suppose that that is something this is simply beyond human understanding that we may never know. other than that, the theory rings true for me and everything after that makes sense.

im not trying to prove that i'm right. im just showing how uneducated this guy is. he thinks the whole theory of science is absolutely rediculous and makes no sense at all, when he cant even open his eyes and see how rediculous the creation story can also make no sense at all. if anything the big bang theory makes a lot more sense. but again, who cares who created the world, all that matters is what is going to happen when we die. is "God" the person millions of people perceive him to be? for all we know, God could be dumber than us, or doesnt even know that we exist.

i agree. people need to learn to look at both sides of things, before jumping to conclusions. both theories make no sense, plain and simple. we are not smart enough, and probably never will be to grasp the creation of the universe. sure we can come up with shit how we think it happened, but we can't grasp it and truly explain it.

i am christian, i suppose. i mean i was raised to go to church every sunday and what not, but i don't anymore. it's just as i get older, i can find so many reasons why god isn't real. and i think a lot of other people do too, but just ignore it. i don't know if god is real anymore, i am not too sure if i care. people always say, we'll find out when we die....no you probably won't. chances are you will die and you will be dead, nothing will happen. that scares me, death in itself. one minute you're thinking, and the next you aren't. like you will not be a person anymore. holy fuck does that scare me more than anything. in fact i might make a thread...

This is where the distinction between FAITH and REASON comes in to play. Using either Faith or Reason, you can't get an answer. You have to find where your own Personal beliefs fall.

Some people are way far left, and just go straight faith, they don't need reason and they don't care for it. Others are the opposite, with reason.

Decide for yourself, and don't bash on other people for believing differently than you.

jea, i have always had the same question, if God just came out of nowhere then why can't the Earth have done the same.  Shit the bible is so old that it is hard to say that over time it wasn't changed by people and re-written incorrectly... .how do we know that all the people who "talked to god" weren't just mad on caps? Just my two cents, not sayin I'm for either side just yet, i still don't know what the hell happened in the start and don't think i ever will lol

You really have to take anything that Science and Religion says with a grain of salt. History has shown that major scientific breakthroughs are often disproved, revised or possibly dangerous in the coming years after. History has also shown that religion has been contradicting itself in so many ways and that it has often expressed itself as an organization of greed, deception and fear mongering when it is thought to do the exact opposite.


I don't believe in the big bang theory and I don't believe in organized religion at all. I do believe that there is some explanation to why we are here and what exactly we were before we were born and where we will go after we die. I don't think that any of my questions about any of this will be answered until I die. Whatever science tells me I doubt, whatever religion tells me I don't believe.

i really dont understand the point of debating the creation of our world. i doubt anyone on this site can actually proove their point of view. therefor this thread will most likely become a battle of opposing theories. everyone has their own viewpoint and "no side believes their wrong in war". feel free to completely disregard my above statement though. and if thats the case, i believe in science. the theories stated on the science side of the arguement seem more realistic that the theory that one superhuman being created our world and the universe it is located in. this is same reason i believe in evolution and not creationism.

Ok so im only going to say this once.

Religion is man's way of quantifying what man cant explain, science is man's way of actually explaining and proving it.

religion is just glorified philosophy. no more, no less.
Everything else in religion, all of the little details, are myths. just like any other premodern religion we now regard as fiction. (example: zeus....)

We have evidence that a Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe. None of us, of course, were around to see it, but we have written accounts of it. We have several lengthy volumes explaining all details of His power. He built the world to make us think the earth is older than it really is. For example, a scientist may perform a carbon-dating process on an artifact. He finds that approximately 75% of the Carbon-14 has decayed by electron emission to Nitrogen-14, and infers that this artifact is approximately 10,000 years old, as the half-life of Carbon-14 appears to be 5,730 years. But what our scientist does not realize is that every time he makes a measurement, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is there changing the results with His Noodly Appendage. We have numerous texts that describe in detail how this can be possible and the reasons why He does this. He is of course invisible and can pass through normal matter with ease.

Science and religion are 2 entirely different things.  religion is a way to live life, science is the result of experimentation.  knowledge gained from mathmatical calculations.  Anybody arguing that science disproves religion is ignorant, science sais nothing about religion other than supplying theories and theoretical evidence of different time lines and genetic/skeletal evolution.  Other than that, physics has said nothing to disprove the theory of God, but rather, several gaps that could support a reality of a God.

Arguing with your original post, Science has come up with ways that the world was created.  And there is scientific evidence everywhere.  How the universe was created is another matter, and the big bang is more of a filler theory than anything.  It is something that explains the unexplained, and unknown, which is open to further information and facts.  Much like dark matter, which's existence is only known by the effects it has on other things in the universe. 

Anyways, who sais that God didnt make a big bang.  If there was a god, You would imagine he would just make a 'bang' and say "let there be light".
