I need to complete 20 or so hours of community service by may. My dad is being a big prick and trying to force me to sign up for Habitat in a place i dont really wanna do habitat for. Any ideas as to good places to do community service? I need a place thats reasonably easy or fun to do, and maybe hook it up with some extra hours.
no offense and you can bitch at me all you want but man up and actually do some work for 20 hours. My HS never asked us to do community service but it's something everyone did anyway. On average I was doing anywhere from 400-1000hrs a year of helping other people who are less fortunate then myself. Maybe it's my attitude towards life but I can't stand it when people ask for easy ways to get hours, if you need easy hours go work at a soup kitchen and actually talk to those who you serve, you might learn something about humility and valuing what you have.
I personally think you dad has the right ide, work for habitat and build somebody a house, so when your finished, you can actually have tangible evidence of what you yourself did to help better somebody's life. I'll tell you right now it's a lot more gratifying than helping some 3rd grader learn how to add numbers while you think to yourself, "wow this sucks, he doesn't want to learn and I'm forced to be here".
Sorry for the rant but this is that one topic that pisses me off.
i volunteer at a therapeutic riding center...so if you like horses at all, try to find a place near you? its actually really fun and isn't manual labor
ya, 3 hours a day on average, I'm gonna call bullshit. and if you did then I'm sorry for you.
Maybe if those people didn't get themselves in shitty situations (the ones who had the opportunitynot to anyway) we wouldn't need to WASTE, yes waste your time helping them.
I've done volunteer shit but only if it's for a very good reason to somebody who really deserves it.
The end.
As far as easy stuff volunteer for a political campaign, they can hook you up with easy stuff. Sometiems it's not considered community service, but is is volunteer hours if that i what you need.
Call bullshit all you want it's called voulenteering for three straight weeks out in new Mexico at a camp, that eqals 27days worth of volunteer hours, and then i got another week of camp that I did back in Ohio, I'm sorry if you don't feel the same way I do about these things but when you try you'll find out it's not that hard to get service hours and they make you feel good.
So before you go on, know that I am one of the most "get a job and support yourself, becuase I mean if all the imigrants can do these jobs, you can too and then you won't be on the street trying to be my friend so I can hook you up for a 40."
I hate the people who just sit around not being proactive about life, If you are trying to better yourself then I'll help you, if your not doing anything to make change your lifestyle then I'll give you the finger and walk away.
So again, maybe it's just me but I personally think that building stuff is fun and thats why I'd do Habitat, having something that can make what you've done at the end of the day is a great feeling.
My buddy did his community service by working for the janitors at my high school, not sure if this would be OK with you or not. Basically, all he did was pick up trash on school grounds and shovel snow
I would like to apologize, I can no longer count apparently and because of that will just tell you to do whatever makes you happy, it's your life so do with it what you will.
Here are some easy ideas for hours
- soup kitchen
- SCPA
-Blood drive worker
and then this one requires a little more work but could be worth it - help a friend with an Eagle Scout project
there are some ideas, I guess instead of berating you I should have just given you what you asked for, and realized that you can still learn something and benefit from whatever you do, and if you do it with a positive attitude it will be better, then if you do it with a negative one.
Personally I like working with my hands so i think building something is always a good option
After reading both of your posts I realized that you are legit. I came off harsh cause I hate working for people who could have helped themselves by not fucking up their shit in the first place. And obviously that is not the case with everyone so ya...
how about you stop bitchin' about 20 hours. you could easily do it in 3 days, just go to the spca or watever and help out, its way beter than work crew on the side of the highway, ive done like 120 hours of that shit
