ah OK. I figured he was very bad, being that you said you have to constantly check to make sure he's breathing, which doesn't make your story seem very casual, hence my recommendation. His hangover will be plenty punishment for his idiocy, though.

Hospitals won't tell the police if you're a drunk minor. They don't want to scare anyone away that might actually need medical help. I've never had to take care of my roommates but I've had some horrible nights with overdrunk girlfriends.

some places, including at my wonderful institution, send a cop car with every ambulance.

i've had to take care of many a drunk roommate/friends at school...
my first weekend freshman year i ended up taking care of a girl i barely knew at the time (who's now one of my best friends), she could barely walk back to our dorm after puking/passing out in the bathroom of an upperclassmen's apartment. that ruled.

other fabulous nights have been spent taking care of one of my roomies last year. she was a wicked lightweight (considering her size) for some reason and ALWAYS got completely hammered. so one night i finally got my thinking cap on and decided to document the experience...
so on said night, we return from a lame frat party with my super wasted roomie who practically barfs in the taxi (which i swear was being driven by fat joe, but that's another story). we get out of the taxi in front of my dorm and my roomie proceeds to spew ALL OVER the resident director's parking spot and pass out in some wood chips. apparently someone in the dorm saw this and called campus security, they arrive and ask if there's a problem, one of the other girls blames it on a group of guys walking across the street and her trick works. blahblahblah we get my roomie back to our room on the 3rd floor and sit her in a chair, barf bucket in arms. this is when i pull my camera out and start taking some super flattering pictures and videos.
there are a few of us in the room at this point, i leave for a minute and come back to find my BARFING roommate being made out with by some random dude. she'd passed out in her chair, head hanging backwards, mouth open and this dude is like, sucking her face. EWWWW., so i yell at the kid to get the fuck out and that he's disgusting. after a bit, my roomie starts messing around on her computer, managing to knock a bottle of water over on her desk which i clean up with her hand towel. when she decides she's ready to go to bed, i start helping her with her contacts and stuff and she tells me she needs to wash her face (huh?), so i hand her the wet towel i wiped her desk up with earlier and she "washes" her face and hits the hay for the night.

that was really long and rambling..sorry. i hope someone gets some enjoyment out of it haha....

Ya alot of places do that. If you can get the person to the hospital on your own, you're fine, but if you have to call and ambulance to get there then chances are there will be cops and they will get an MIP...unless they are over 21.

If you can, try and get your roommate to throw up. Also have him maybe eat some bread or something if he can. The food will not only help him to digest the alcohol, but also to absorb what is in his stomach so that his body doesn't absorb it as fast. Puking would be a good option for those same reasons, to get out any alcohol in his system that he hasn't absorbed yet.

Alot of people get alcohol poisoning because they don't throw up before they pass out, leaving their body to be stuck with the excess alcohol in your system. You then absorb that alcohol and it gets to a toxic level.

I really don't see how people can get so fucking wasted that they can barely handle themselves... 1.It never ends well  2.It's not that fun 3.You will always feel like shit when it's all said and done 4.You will always look like an idiot being the only one barfing all over the place.  Know your limit and stick to it, it's not hard to do.  I'd much rather get to the point where I am drunk and somewhat coherent than being absolutely bombed and belligerent.

yah once you reach a certain threshold you cant really help yourself. course, a bit of willpower can usually keep you away from that kinda area, but its usually a shifting line

my room mate always gets belligerently drunk and one night he drank more than half a bottle of paramount and were walking around columbus (osu campus), kid tries to fight EVERYONE he walks by, like knocking shoulders with everyone, had i not been there to tell everyone he ran into that he was just belligerently drunk he probably would have gotten the shit beaten out of him, i mean he is like 6'4 200something but he was knocking shoulders with some pretty gnarly looking guys. he was pissed about his ex so he decided to try to take on the city of columbus ohio. then we get back to our house and he sits on the steps and cries  telling me and our other room mate that we aren't his friends and i we don't give a shit about him... after we had spent the last 3 hours making sure he didnt die in the streets of columbus hahaha, good old drunk kids.

bwahahaha theres not much else around at 2 in  the morning. He's feeling the worse for wear right now still fairly drunk, going home for the weekend. He woke me up still loaded this morning to cry to me about the girl he fucked things up with and how retarded hes been lately (4th night in a row getting hammered)

Yes exactly, back in the fall I could handle my alcohol fairly well due to numerous outings. A few of us went to Sudbury to check out the University and we partied a bit afterwards. We got into a game called flip cup and you really don't think you're drinking that much and I tried to pace my self yet I ended up puking and having an awful morning.

my roomate projectile vomited against his wall and was repeating "jaegar bombs" in his mindless babble. this was on halloween. it was a really smelly mess that i took no part in cleaning up, and i stayed up till 5 am to watch him

I know it just happens sometimes, but it is very possible to stop yourself if you want to.

my roommate chugged a glass and half of tequila (about 16 shots worth) this after playing a bunch of rounds of pong. He went down hill real quick to the point where he was lapping up water like a cat and couldn't actually say anything. We ended calling the emergency and this super angry cop came up to our room and was like yelling at him and shit while he couldn't understand anything and me and another guy were holding him up because his feet had actually stopped working. We had to firemen carry him downstairs and wait for an ambulance where the EMT yelled at the other guy for being drunk too, he wasn't anymore. He came back the next day (luckily) cuz he had a .41 BAC which for those of you haven't yet had the joy of taking alcohol edu as part of college, is just above the line at which a lot of people die or end up in a coma. And then the guys dad called me at 5 in the morning to find out where he had been and me and my other roommates were trying so hard to make up a believable story for the guy. It was a bad night, but there's been lots of good jokes out of it.

my drunk roomate last night lost 80 bucks playing darts against our buddy. it was funny. and he was pissed.

One night my roommate went out drinking and I decided to just hang out around the dorm.  So I went to bed then wake up because my cell phone is ringing, we have lofted beds so it's a pain in the ass to climb back down while I'm barely awake.  Anyway it's about 3:30 in the morning I get a call from my roommate, but it's not him on the phone it's some girl I can't recognize the voice of and don't know.  Apparently my roommate was at some house totally fucked up beyond belief and so this girl was like what should we do?  She told me where they were and I had no idea where it was but I think it was far, and I didn't want to walk over there and I don't have a car.  So she said she'd figure it out somehow so I was still half asleep and was just like ok, cool, I can go back to bed.  Sometime later my roommate stumbles in, sits down on the floor mumbling, leaning against the wall struggling to take his shoes off, and coughing and hacking like he was about to puke in the garbage can.  Eventually he just passed out and fell asleep.  The end.

Yeah my roomate has a history of drinking related problems which is why I was being so cautious last night.

Rewind back to mid-December. Our school was hosting a formal Christmas ball. Now despite his heavy drinking my roomie is not without class and he and I had organized a small social in our room. We had invited anyone to stop by to socialize before heading over to the dance. There were decorations, wine; a table set out with cheese, crackers, shrimp rings and dip as well. We were all dressed in our best and having a good time of it. Now what none of us (Least of all my roomate) knew was that he had contracted an infection which had spread to the lining around his heart. He had complained earlier in the day about chest pains but we'd thought nothing of it and he seemed to be enjoying himself.

Next thing we know, four glasses of wine later and my roomates a blasted belligerant little fuck which is odd for several reasons. Though moody sometimes he rarely ever explodes and hes a heavy drinker and there was no cause for him to be as smashed as he was having only had four glasses. He began lipping me off for small trivial things that I do which annoy him, he began making a scene in the room and essentially trash talking me in front of eevryone. Flustered and confused I decide to stay out of his way and leave our room.

I didn't see him much during the ball itself, only stumbling around from girl to girl trying to dance and failing horribly, making out with anything that moves, typical overdrunk behavior. Now when the ball ends I make my way back with my date to our res only to here a raucus 2 floors up. We climb the stairs and find about 20 people clustered in a hallway and RA's desperately trying to break through the crowd. My Roomie is screaming at the top of his lungs and has a friend of ours pinned against the wall by his collar. He's howling and cursing and both of them were having trouble standing. As it turns out my friend had unknowingly hit on a girl my roomie had had a crush on for a while, the only strange part was the rediculosu drunkenness of my roomate. RA's finally manage to calm him down and bring him back to my room where he proceeds to spill his guts into the garbage can and pass out. The next morning he was an absolute wreck. I've never seen anyone in a worse state. He had an early morning appointment which he tried to get up for but couldn't. At the time I wasn't particularly sympathetic having been humiliated by him the previous night but he walks out clutching his chest and and says hes going to the medical centre.

The next thing I know I get a call from him sounding weak from the hospital asking me to pack some thigns for his dad to pick up because hes been admitted into intensive care at 19 years old for almost sustaining cardiac arrest. As it turns out the infection in his heart had lead to Endocarditis (SP) a condition where the lining we all have around our heart swells and puts undo pressure on the organ. His heart as it turns out wasn't working properly which in turn was affecting his other bodily functions which meant his liver absorbed zero alcohol from the night before as he drank. That in turn poisoned him and only made the condition worse, to the point whree if he'd waiting even an hour mroe before going to the hospital he'd have had a full heart attack.

Turns out he missed a month of school and got exempted from his exams. The guys fairly lacking in common sense and keeps drinking like he did before the break which is sad. Anytime he overdoes it I feel obliged to look after him and essentially make sure he doesn't die in his bed.
