First time park skis.

Yeah I've been skiing for about 6 years now out in the East Coast, NH/VT/ME area more specifically, and I was looking to get into some freestyle stuff. I was wondering what pair of skis people would recommend that is good to start in the park with but will also be good for when I become better. I'm willing to spend up to 800 or so for ski and binding, and hell my boots are a little too big anyway so if you want to throw a reccomendation for that in, go ahead. I'm not a complete novice  in the park though, I can do most flat box's, 180's, and can go off (max) 20 ft. jumps (without doing anything special though). Thanks for your help in advance.

As for skis, i will just throw out some general park skis that you can consider. Most park skis consist of

Armada ar6 or Armada T Hall
4frnt STL or 4frnt TNK
Volkl Wall
Line Invader or Line Anthem
Several Ninthward skis
Salomon Dumont or SPK or Foil

Bindings, we will need more info. And boots we will need more info

Okay, boots are all preference. You will need to try some on, and read the sticky at the top of the Ski Equipment section on boots. Bindings, i would recommend Salomon S912 or better. Look p12 series are also good. Your skis will probably need to be in the 170-177 cm range.

Wow, this forum is fast, thanks for your help guys. I like the Invader, and the Anthems look like they could be good, except I can't stand the colors. As far as Armada, I like the T-halls, AR6, and Pipe cleaners. I also like the Volkl Walls. But what will you need to know for bindings, I already know its hard to recommend boots online so I won't bother with them.

It's mainly about how aggressive you feel you will be, and what type of binding release you're looking for. The looks p12 series has a pivot style toe piece that "swivels" to the side when crashing. Other bindings differ, but almost everyone on here will tell you to stay away from Marker. Go with a salomon s912, s914, z12, or any looks series. Don't spend over $175 on them either.

bit hard for a beginner, you mean stiff?

Also maybe check out some atomics, as for bindings go for px12's possibly and yeah stay away from marker.

I don't think he means stiff, because T halls are definatly not a stiff ski. They are medium soft.

Whats wrong with Marker? I think I've narrowed it to the Invaders, AR6, and Walls, for now at least, I will want to try them first. And thanks for all your help. Also if you were to recommend a good park boot what brand/model would it be? Just so I have somewhere to start, that's all.

OOOO and the most important thing to remember is to not be fooled by ski shops. They will charge retail on everything, but finding hookups online will save you hundreds. Watch ebay, other sale sites, and most importantly NS for deals. Spending $800 is not really something you need to do. You can get a pair of good bindings and almost perfect used skis for $300, and a new pair of boots for the same or cheaper.

For a beginner, nothing. But after a season or two you will regret buying them. Reliability and the cheap production account for alot of people straying away from them. I personally had a pair when i was first learning, and they worked alright. But they always felt cheap, and being worried about equipment isn't something you want.

For boots, the freestyle specific include Salomon SPK, FOIL, and i think there are some others i'm forgetting. Almost everyone loves the SPK boots, but they are expensive. You can also check out Dalbello Krypton, and getting custom foot liners that fit your fit is something everyone recommends.

foils are good if you want to do some park and some out of the park but if you plan on mostly park id go with one of the spks

Tecnica agent 100's have been real great for me boot-wise. A bunch were on here in sz 26.5, I seemed to have grabbed the only ones not in this size that have popped up on NS (28.5) And the bonus is they have plaid green on em. i mean c'mon it's the baller pattern of the year, hahahaha. but really it's a great boot. I got em on here (NS) used for 300 and they are selling for 530 on sale everywhere else. I am very interested in this thread too as i'm possibly looking to get new skis/bindings next season (just started this year) I'm really feelin the T halls too, but REALLY feelin the walls. Any pro/con's between these 2 skis?

And i'm REAL confused about bindings p12's and px12's, same things? both made by Look?

Also I have look nova 100's on my atomic triplets (got em on ebay mounted already for 250, couldn't help it good deal for 1st ski) are the 100's an alright binding. Sorry didn't mean to take the thread if i did, figured the info would help out

How about the STH 12 from Salomon for bindings? Anyone use them or like them? And why are Invaders on the cheaper side of ski's? will they need to be replaced as I get better in the park or are they good for even expert park skiers?

think of p12s as the previous generation px12s. novas are a real great beginner binding, real light.

the sth is a nice binding thats the freestyle specific i beilieve?correct me if im wrong. but the invader is a price point ski. there very noodly and dont need to be replaced if you get better(unless they loose there pop still? which i dont think they do) if you want a soft buttery ski the invader is good but rember the softer the less stable at high speeds(i dont think itll be a problem starting out and only doing small jump thou)and your gonna want to detune your edges as you get new skis at least underfoot if you plan on doin rails this will prevent you from catching your edge and dieing.
