Replying to FireWire/HV20 Problem???

Aright so i got an HV20 recently and i had just been working on getting comfortable with it and filming some stuff around here. so now i went to take it off of my cam but i am having 2 problems.

On the computer i edit on i didnt have a firewire PCI card so i went out and bought a brandnew card and installed it this morning. my computer recognized the new card but then when i connected my cam to the computer through a firewire cable that i had my computer would either:

1) would make the noise like my camera had just been connected but then not display or recognize it

OR

2) it would recognize my camera BUT when i went to take the footy off of my cam it would play my footage like it was capturing it off of the tape, but it wouldnt capture anything it would just play the footy through my camera.

So, do you think that this is a problem with the firewire cable or the firewire card that i am using, or do you think its something wrong with my cam. Ive tried using the card in different PCI slots but i havent had any luck doing so.

Im real frustrated right now so im up for any ideas or input thanks
