Skis for parents.

So my parents are looking to get new skis, not necesarily twin tips, so this is were those of you who know a little about non twins come in.


My Dad.
Hieght: 5 11
wieght: 212
He is looking for a ski that is stiff enough to go fast on everything but also fat enough to keep him afloat in the powder. He likes skiing trees and going fast on the groomers. MUST be stiff.
Looking at the Prophet 90 or 100 as well as Rossi Bandits, any other suggestions would be great.


My Mom.

Wants a ski that will perform well on groomers, this is priority. Also likes to ride the trees. Preferably something that would work alright in powder as well since the main reason she doesnt like pow is because its such a bitch to keep her thin skis above the snow. Dont really have any idea on what skis to look at so suggestions would be great.

Both ski in the West (Vancouver Island ,British Columbia). If theres any info I missed let me know. Thanks.

Check out the Atomic Metron's for your mother, theyre pretty fat, but still a sick ski for groomers and the rest of the mountain. and yeah B2's or something for your daddy

Your dad sounds like my freinds dad, they ski baker and whis all the time and we told him to buy some twins and he bought ARV's and wants to divorce his wife and marry his skis. He took the 185 length I believe and Loves the shit out of them... then he bought his wife the 165's and they match.

Just a thought, theyre a great light all mountain ski fun, lively and look neet. I see alot of older people out there on skis that are fucking hella heavy, like a salomon pilot system ski, or b9 or whatever from atomic and I always think to myself how much more fun they would be having on a pair of lightweight all mountain twins. My Uncle is one of those people, he has a pair of xtra hots from 2 years ago, and its a fuckin work out lugging those things out of the car, we switched and he rode my center mounted JJ's and asked if he could buy them on the spot. In one run his legs felt better, and his knees and hips werent as sore just from a lighter ski. Wow, I really started to rant there...

think about that!

ARV definitely seems like a good fit expect it is real soft. Something in the same dimensional range, but stiff would prolly be a good fit, sadly I have no idea about wider skis.

Theyre not that soft, plus theyre snappy. but if youre worried about that, you could go with a volkl wall, or 4frnt msp for your dad. Or go check out www.momentskis.com. they have some of the sickest shit ever! I have some rockers and reno jibs, to go along with my JJ's and wholy shit are they fuckin sick!

Seths would be ok. Your mom would like the celebrity from line. Its a neet ski and its not super intimidating.  GOod waist on it. There is alot of great skis out there, maybe the best thing to do is to take your parents to a shop and go get a tangible feel for some sticks.

ARV's are pretty much as soft as it gets, esp the 05 06 model. no seriously......they are WAY soft, like over cooked spaghetti soft

I would seriously recommend your dad check out some Legend Pros.  I use them as my everyday ski (and powder last season) and everything else feels hopelessly inferior.  For what they are, it's a super easy ski to ride and has no top speed.  You can arc quite a few different turn lengths on the groomers, and they're basically a wide race ski so cruising around is actually really fun.  I don't think I really need to say anything about their performance everywhere else.  I did a review of them if you want to look into them.

FYI I mounted my 186's 79cm from the tail and it seems to be pretty good.  At 81.5 they were diving too much in soft snow, but were nice on hardpack--just not quite enough tip.  Mount at ~79 if it's for all-around/soft snow use or 80-81 if it's just for hardpack.  Disregard for the 194's.

Legend Pros are a great recommendation

Volkl AC40 would be something else to look at if he's more groomer-inclined and wants to hold a great carve
