I think I fucked my VCT's...

well, the mounting point at least. I bought new 175cm VCT's and after my experience on the MSP's/reading up online I decided to mount 1cm back from freeride for all mtn performance. I got them back from the shop and they look really fucking far back. Less tail then I've ever had on a ski. Am I going to be able to ski with it like this, or will I need a re-mount? I need to know before I go to Aspen at the end of Jan because no one in the town mounts 4frnt bindings. Here's a pic:

ya those are really far back
i just got my vct'smind your there a year or 2 older in the same size  and i mounted mine at -2 from true center would have put them a little further back but the previous owner already drilled there
i may move them back but its gonna be my booter skis so it should be perfect ill let you know what i think of them when there mounted so far forward on monday

you could always move them forward yourself because of the same hole patter would be the same just mesure each hole how ever many cm more forward you want then take a drill bit smaller then the screw stick it in the previous hole and mark in my wrapping tape around the bit so you dont drill to far drill your holes and screw your bindings in save yourself 25 bucks or whatever it is to get your skis mounted

I wouldn't recommend that. I mounted a pair of old gayper skis that I had as a joke by hand and it worked fine, but I really wouldn't recommend it on your actual skis unless you are real comfortable with it. but yea, the upside is those are so far back you can mount way more forward and the holes wont be near eachother.

Put your boot in the binding, there should be a little tick on the center of the boot, that's the midsole line. If the midsole line on your boot is not at 1 cm back from freeride then freak out at the shop and get them to buy you new skis.

you guys act like its the hardest thing to do to mount your own skis
ive moved bindings on my skis forward by this method before and it worked fine
its not that hard to mount your own fucking skis
you just cant be completly retarded

Ya but if you fuck up, there is no one to blame but yourself and you are totally screwed.  It's not that hard to drill holes, but it's also a fucking stupid idea to do it yourself if you never have before.

then just make a template with card board  and redrill its not rocket sceince
as long as you have some basic know how you'll be fine
mesure twice cut one same thin only your drilling
just dont forget to fill your old holes

are talking about bits as in knoledge or drill bits

ive done it before my freinds have done it before thats why i know how

and regular drill bits work unless there is a metal sheet in your ski like a volant or i think karmas from 3 years ago had a metal layer too then you have to use some thing else probably a special bit but i dont know for certain

okay, assuming the 'freeride' line is the little 1cm white line on the left edge of the ski under the serial number(there's no defined line like on previous models) they look to be a bit less than 1" back from the boot midsole. They are, however, 1cm back from the two little markers below Dorion's signature (I've posted pics to show this). I think it's possible the shop guy thought that line was the mounting point and not the other white line. Or maybe I'm wrong and that is the mounting point.

I don't know whether I should take my chances and just ski them as is or get a remount (which will be a major pain in the arse to do before I go away). I won't really be using the ski for jumps (more for pow/all mtn) so it doesn't worry me if they're a bit back, as long as they aren't so far behind the centre of the sidecut that I can't ski on them.

if you even have doubts about what the shop did take them back, explain your situation, and you should get a free remount. they didn't destroy your skis, so your not getting new skis, but a free remount and shit probably. just be forward with them. dont be angry either, that won't get you anywhere.

My shop did the same thing, they refunded my mounting money and gave me gas money for driving back there a second time.  no joke

those do look pretty far back i woulg remount if you were REALLY concerened about it but if not i think i would go for it but thats just me.

I'm leaning towards just skiing them as they are. Hopefully they'll still work fine, if not I'll worry about a re-mount then. Lucky I'm not a backseat skier because there's not much tail to ride!

yea but most people on this site don't have the knowledge of how to do it, or the proper tools to do it with. I've mounted many skis in my lifetime, and i just don't think its worth it to try to freemount when you don't have to. It'd be a much better investment to bring in some beer with yourskis next time you want them remounted.

Well, I sent the pics to 4FRNT and they were able to confirm that the shop did indeed fuck up. Taking them back for a remount today, fingers crossed they don't fuck up again.
