^ It's getting deeper
4 feet of new snow and still puking snow. Summit temp at Alpine Meadows is 12 degrees, so any talk of "Sierra cement" is barried in fluff now. And this storm cycle is not even close to being done, another two arctic fronts will move in today and Sunday so the cold air has now moved in. This is getting pretty insane. Is thier a chance of too much snow? nah'.. kidding :)
as far as CA vs. CO snow or storms, its a fun topic I suppose weather wise, but we all know that both state have had mad dumps. I love CO. it is so sick there, true its snow is drier than out here usually because it is way further from the Pacific Ocean. Still Cal does get dry and light pow, cause I have had it deep more times than I can count. that especially happens out here when a low sets up over Nevada and wraps back around pulling cold air in from the north and east. As far as huge dumps out here there are two that stick out in my mind that hit So. Cal in mind blowing quantities.
One was back in the mid 90's when Mt Baldy CA recieved 9 feet of snow in one storm that lasted almost a week, and then another one in 93' which is known as the " March Miracle" that dumped 12 feet at Mt. Baldy ski area which created 25 ft. wind wave drifts all over the tops of the lifts. Both of those storms were monsters that mixed artic fronts with subtropical moisture from the pacific, and then perfectly lined the jet stream right into the ranges of So Cal. Rare, but epic to say the least.
It will be interesting to see if this storm cycle will measure up to record storms in the past, it already has had the lowest pressure reading compared to other blizzards in US history, so there will be more feet by Sunday and beyond. UTAH and CO. should get ready cause at least some of this storm is on its way!!
It is crazy as hell here in Mammoth. Around 5-9 feet so far (totals, maybe another 1-2 by wednesday. Since the resort closed last night, we've received atleast 2 more feet. Shit is intense. Driving up the hill at 5 a.m. was a little sketchy to say the least.
My parking lot 2 days ago
